If you did not configure a password hint during installation or if the hint does not assist in remembering your password there is no way to access or recover the data. You're only option is to reformat the drive and then IMMEDIATELY, before you save anything to the drive, use a file recovery program to retrieve your data. Google "free file recovery software" and look for a *reputable* program by reading reviews or using a site like CNet Central.
It would be a good idea to test the memory in another PC, if the problem continues, the SD has a file system that isn't recognized by your operating system or it has a bad file allocation table, if can be read only from a phone, camera or PDA , and it has data, you can use the corresponding device acting as reader connected to PC using its USB cable to retrieve your data from the card.
If the pen drive is working, the data is there and can be recovered. I
think it could be due to virus activity. Some virus make the contents
of the drive hidden, thats why user can't see the files and the space
available for use is less than the capacity. It is suggested that go
to FOLDER OPTIONS - and select SHOW HIDDEN FILES. It may show the
hidden files. Otherwise, you can use any data recovery program to recover the data. Please not that you should not sav/write any data to avoid overwriting the existing data.
There are a few utilities available on the internet that may be able to recover at least some of your files, even after you tried to format. I have used this program several times to retrieve customer data from damaged memory cards. I hope this helps.
