Question about Dell E156FP 15" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

I have a E156FP LCD Monitor. When I turn on my computer, it will show the initial Dell Screen and then the screen goes black. The green power light turns orange. If I push either of the (+) or (-) signs, the power light turns green again and a message pops up saying it is in power save mode and to press any key or move my mouse to bring it out of power save mode. Then the screen goes black again and the power light turns orange again. However, when I press keys on the keyboard or move my mouse it doesn't do anything, the screen stays black. I know there isn't a problem with my computer tower as it works fine with a friends monitor hooked up.

The monitor has failed, it is almost always cheaper to replace it than fix it.

SOURCE: Monitor not receiving data from computer?

If you did not hear any beep from your CPU, then the problem is in the system not the screen.
Try connecting the screen to another computer and try also a working screen of a friend to your computer...
You'll find out that either the screen or the computer...

Good luck... post me back for your result.

SOURCE: Dell E173FP stuck in power save mode

What if both the monitor and computer are stuck in power saver? There is no way to get to the control panel. Then what?

SOURCE: In power save mode

The monitor is not receiving signal from the computer. Is the power light on on the computer? If so - press and hold power button on computer until the power light goes off, then press again to restart. If the computer starts and you still have no picture it is most likely a video card or motherboard problem.

SOURCE: Problem w/Dell E176FPf monitor stuck in power save mode

Ok if it the monitor works fine on another unit discount it out of the equation as a monitor problem.
I would suspect the driver on the PC that delivers the problem, especially the video card.
. Check that the cable is also on tightly. remove it and even clean the pins and replug it .the plug on that PC may be dirty

You May need to replace the video card as the communication to the monitor is intermittent and that is why you get the amber light.
Open the box with power off. clean the card if it has a lot of dust on it ( most do and its always a shock) wipe it over ( BOTH SIDES) and then try to start it up as usual with the monitor connected to see if that fixed it ( sometimes works) if not get another card and replace it. Best I can offer without being there to help on the spot.
A new card should allow you access to install and configure it and these days they are pretty cheap to buy

Please rate this help to keep the service online

Dell E156FP Monitor Problem

If the screen is not completely black (i.e. just very very dim, turn the lights off to see) try using the controls at the bottom of the monitor to reset to factory settings (all settings). I have had this problem with two dell monitors so far and this seems to work.

The first thing you should do is change the monitor for another known working monitor to make sure it is the monitor that is faulty and not the video output of your computer.

It is probably either a CCFL back light issue inside the LCD or a set of capacitors on the inverter/power supply board.
Would you be willing to part with it ?
