Question about Olympus FE-170 Digital Camera

1 Answer

When I try to transfer pics from the FE-170 to my Mac (as I have done before) it says the camera is not connected. The camera shuts off when I plug it in, which makes me think it's the batteries; I guess it could also be the cable. Are cables easy to replace? Should I be using lithium batteries, instead of generic double A's?

Have you considered NOT connecting your camera to your computer? The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

Having gone over a month without a response to my query, I assume my suggestion to use a card reader solved the problem.

MY Olympus fe-170 has a broker screen, how can I get my pictures off of my camera?

Connect this to your computer via USB ..and wait.
Then press OK button on the camrea onece (this will "blindly" accept connection to the PC MODE)..
In a few seconds you will have a Removable Drive available in My Computer folder (Windows) or you will see iut on the desktop (Mac) ... Copy your pictures out of the DCIM folder to your computer ;-) ..
Or .. replace a screen ... I have a "parts-out" FE-170 with a good screen - easy to replace ... write back if you want it kriscichon@hotrmail.com

Olympus FE-370 I have 10 pictures on the camera (tok pics without realising there was no card inside!), but I cant seem to save them to the memory card - I have lost the lead for the camera. Is there...

See page 34 of the manual (available for free download from Olympus below).

http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/FE-370_X-880_C-575_Instruction_Manual_EN.pdf

Or in short, select the "Setup" (tools) menu, and then select "Backup". You'll need to have the memory card installed for the transfer.
