SOURCE: need to know the correct levels of oils in a chainsaw

Most McCulloch saws use a 40:1 oil ratio if using McCulloch branded 2-stroke oil. They state 20:1 for other oils, but this is probably overkill as most name branded 2-stroke oils these days are pretty good. I would probably go for a 30:1 or 35:1 mix to err on the side of caution. This will not affect performance, it may just mean you need to change spark plugs a little earlier than usual, but the cylinders will at least be well lubricated.

McCulloch International (OMs and IPLs)
http://www.mcculloch.biz/int/

Your OM (441 in window above)
http://www.mcculloch.biz/int/support/owners-manuals/?query=441&types=O
The manual says 40:1 (4 liters of premium fuel to 100 milliliters of quality 2-cycle oil).

IMO Once broken in (3 tanks of petrol mix ±) and the carburetor properly set in it will start easier, take longer to carbon foul and pollute less on 50:1 (4 liters of premium fuel to 80 milliliters of quality 2-cycle oil). Your accuracy of measurement and age of the mix become more of a factor.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. Thank you for using FixYa and Good Luck. HTH

The mixture should be 50-1 with Husqvarna rwo stroke oil, it is recommended that you use a mixture of 25-1 with other brands of two stroke oil, this is because they do not know the quaility of other brands, always try to find genuine Husqvarna oil.

I need to know which oil type goes into the oil chamber for the chain on a mac 3200 gas chainsaw, not the mixture...thanks

There really is no exact type of oil that goes into the chain and bar oiler. Each manufacturer usually makes their own, but any chain and bar oil will work. It is a thicker type of oil unlike a motor oil. Just ensure that the bottle says "bar and chain" oil

Most chainsaws in the United States operate on a 50:1 oil to unleaded gasoline ratio. Some manufacturers recommend a 40:1 mixture.

Husqvarna recommends 50:1
1 gallon of premium fuel to 2.6 ounces of quality 2-cycle oil.
4 liters of premium fuel to 80 milliliters of quality 2-cycle oil.

Dolmar, Echo, Efco, Homelite, Husqvarna, Jonsered, Makita, Oleo-Mac, Red Max, Ryobi, Shindaiwa, Solo, Stihl & Tanaka; all recommend 50:1.
McCulloch & Poulan; recommend 40:1.
Chinese chainsaws recommend 25:1.

Recommended oil mixture both is 20:1. Sounds like a great way to foul plugs and score cylinders to me.

Fuel/Oil Mixture
  1. Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL supplier's recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 8oz/2gal - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (Stihl 2.6oz/1gal)
  2. Any fuel containing ethanol is not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few months. Anything over 6 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine.
Try here for your manual. Please do a search first, it has probably been asked and answered. You need only query the person that has your manual.
