There is a possibility that the power resources of your computer (specifically the power supply) cannot give enough power to the whole PC plus the new HDD, there are lots of options that you can do to get this resolved, some are you remove components in your computer taht is not being used, secpially the one that is plugged to your power supply,

get a power supply that have larger wattage / power capacity.

hope that helps, good luck on this one, just let me know if you should have other questions.

Bios cannot read hard drive

Hi Robert,

IT could be that the Barracuda drive is formatted for boot up. I would boot up with the drive that boots, and make the Barracuda a spare drive, so you can go in and first see if has any issues as a drive,(meaning sector 0 errors, and if you can access it, then you can format it as a boot up drive, or get what data on that drive off for your friend.

Good Luck Mark

If you have another computer, you could try to plug it in there as a slave/secondary drive so that you can try to see if My Computer would still recognize it. If it works, then great, you can still do backups. If not, and you really need that data, you might want to get the services of a data recovery company.

Trying to make my seagate barracuda 7200.9 slave

1) Open your computer case
2) On the back of the drive where the connectors are, you have jumpers. These small plastic tabs change the function of your hard drive. All hard drives have a special setup procedure. The information about jumper settings is on the top of the hard drive.
3) Remove plastic tabs and put them according to "Slave" instructions.
4) Connect drive to middle connector of the cord.
5) Connect power supply cord.
6) Secure the drive in place and close computer case.

Also make sure that the main drive is not set as slave.

Seagate 7200.8 300 gig harddrive just stopped working. No noise, no nothing. bios and o.s no longer see it. I need it to work

Your hard drive is maybe faulty. But before you consider that, try this thing first. Connect your hard drive using the other power cord from your power supply. If you see the HDD led is working, the red one in CPU casing, then it has power but if still no detection from the computer then probably your drive is faulty. Bring it to nearest computer repair center in your place and get it fix there.

Wow! I hope no one was injured. If the info is retrieviable, I recommend intalling a new hard drive with an os install on it. Set the jumpers on the "flame" hard drive to slave, connect as a second hard drive and power on your system. Hopefully no flames and all systems go. You simply copy the file from the second drive to the new drive.

NOTE: Without reinstalling the software from a disk, you will need to point any apps that need the old file to the NEW location of the file. (i.e.- if MS Ofiice Word is on the old drive and you open a Word doc, you may need to tell the location of the MS Office file you want to use.)

Good Luck
