Ir 2135qtimax performance as though low and losing pressure at input, this is not the problem, simutaneously the anvil end of the gun gets Very warm. i took it apart several times and have found lube, and no wear markings.

I have a husky 1/2 inch air gun, I bought the 1/2 inch impact sockets, they do not attach... They appear to small. What is the problem?


At the end of the anvil there is a retaining ring with an o-ring acting as a spring which holds the socket to the anvil. Sometimes they need to be adjusted. You can try and compress the retaining ring slightly by using a channellock plier, adjust accordingly and squeeze slightly until you get the desired tension. If you still cannot attach the socket then you will have to replace the retaining ring and o-ring as a set.

I have a IR 2130 Impactool 1/2 in drive I just got it used it seems to work ok but the torque seems to low I can hold it with my hand and it will not turn or take the lug nuts off the car is the torque...


This gun shouldnt have an adjustment. If you cfm's from your compressor are enough. Too low cfm's mean lower torque. If cfm is high enough for the gun rating then I would say the gun is bad.

My CP 734 has no power under load. Is there a rebuild kit to fix this problem and where can I get it? If a kit is available, is that a difficult rebuild? Tim


I used to repair these impacts for a living. Simplest first thing to do is back off the three 1/8" set screws in the back a couple turns. Pour a little varsol into the air inlet and plug it in. run the gun until your hand is black, (wear a glove). Once the varsol stops disconnect the air, add a few drops of air tool oil and tighten the screws slowly and evenly. You will hear the impact rpm increase. If your gun doesn't speed up to it's original scream you will have to remove the four 5/32" set screws and see what's worn. To open it hold the impact by the nose 3" off the table and position a center punch in the hole of the anvil shank with the same hand and hit it with a hammer hard enough to overtake the spring. The guts should drop on to the table in tact. The guts are in twp parts, the hammering mechanism, and the air motor. The three 1/8" screws hold the motor together. You will soon see the problem. Take the back off the air motor and it will show your if the veins are worn. Cjeck the end plates for wear. You can turn the end plates down on a lathe if available. As a rule of thumb, if the anvil shank is dry buy a repair kit, if it's wet, buy a tune-up kit. If the ring on the anvil shank doesn't turn, buy a repair kit and change your sockets. When rebuilding these front seal often leaks. These impacts are supposed to use 30 weight oil, but a mix of Ingersol Rand grease and 30 weight oil, ( just till it's slightly runny) will stay much longer. Assembling the anvil assembly can be tricky until you figure out how to hold the shank and two pins with the same hand. Good luck.

IR 261 air wrench vanes sticking


NOT exactly a solution, but may help you with your problem: I'm also a Owner of a 261 ( In fact 90% 0f all my Air Tools are IR) that I used everyday when I was working on Terex Equipment & EMD Locomotives. I "Upgraded" the Major Parts inside my Gun to the "Industrial Line" rather than the Automotive Parts since the 261 is classified as a Automotive Tool..and Installing an Adjustable Regulator on the Gun Helped a Lot too...by "tweeking" my Gun out, I was Pumping almost as much torque as some of the 1" Guns...
FYI: Don't Over Oil as the Oil will absorb into the Vanes, causing them to Expand in thickness "Permanently"...just 2-3 drops of a Hi-Grade Air Tool Oil before starting the Day is enough...sounds to me like your Picking up some contamination someplace??

Not all 120psi air supplies are the same. Here are some differences. The pressure regulator has a great deal of effect on the performance of the air tool. Regulators are sold by the volume of air (cfm)that they can handle. The more cfm the larger the pipe fittings on the regulator. A 1/4 fitting regulator will restrict the air somewhat compared to a 3/8. Another difference is weather moisture is present in the air. Moisture will temporarily help seal the orings, however too much water in gun will cut the orings. The air hose and fittings will also stifle performance. Long small diameter hose will lower pressure at the gun. This can be measured by installing a guage on a T fitting on the end of the hose and watch the pressure as you fire the gun. Larger fittings and hose ID will improve performance. Finally, your nail gun should work on both compressors. To make your nailgun work at home, (assuming that there are no air leaks) lube the headvalve parts with silicone grease. (sold at lowes in plumbing dept) For best performance, replace the orings in the head valve, examine the plastic parts where the orings contact and look for wear and tiny scratches (use magnify lense). Replace these worn parts along with orings. Replace the head gasket and make sure that the body and the head-cap are not warped. Place sheet of fine sandpaper on flat surface, with cylinder removed rub the body of the gun on paper a few times to check for warp. Do same with cap. Parts are available at www.toolpartsdirect.com.
