Question about DPS109 Digital Portable Power Station

A jump start short circuit error display came on when I tried to jump start my vehicle. It was connected properly. There was no problem jumping the vehicle from another vehicle.

Double check the polarity of the unit with a volt meter----
red>>>positive~~~~~~black>>>negative
another thought---after you got your vehicle running did you have any issues later----such as batt going dead again---wipers won't work---lites dim--- etc etc----there a lot of variables here so this isn't going to be easy----get back to me with some answers if you please----it's the best I can do for now

The manual has lots of warnings:
Like:
After re-connecting the battery, the steering wheel must be turned to full left-hand and right-hand lock (with engine running). This allows the DSC system to relearn the steering wheel position. Failure to do so will result in a variety of instrument warning lights being illuminated.
Then after you replaced the battery (battery being empty is the same for the electronics) it says:

A discharged battery condition may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. If this condition exists there will be an apparently live circuit on the vehicle even when all normal circuits are switched off. This can cause arcing when the jumper cables are connected. then tis part:
It is advisable not to use starter/charger sets for jump starting but if this is unavoidable, make sure that the sets are not used in the 'START' mode.

  • ? Always make sure that the jumper cables are adequate for the task.
  • ? Always make sure that the slave battery is of the same voltage (12 volts) as the vehicle battery. The batteries must be connected in parallel.
  • ? Make sure that the battery terminals of both batteries are fully tightened.
  • ? Where another vehicle is used to jump start a disabled vehicle, make sure that the two vehicles are not touching.
  • ? It is advisable that the engine of the donor vehicle is switched off during jump starting; take care to make sure that the battery of the donor vehicle does not also become discharged.
  • ? Always make sure that switchable electric circuits are OFF before connecting jump cables. This reduces the risk of arcing occurring when the final connection is made.
    Following jump starting of a disabled vehicle, the discharged battery must be checked for serviceability and recharged as soon as possible to avoid permanent damage.
    Do not rely on the generator to restore a discharged battery. For a generator to recharge a battery, it would take in excess of eight hours continuous driving with no additional loads placed on the battery.
    Trickle charging (defined as voltages <16 volts) may be carried out with the battery connected. Make sure that the battery terminals are fully tightened prior to trickle charging

Jump Start of Vehicle Battery


IF THE BATTERY YOU ARE USING TO JUMP-START THE VEHICLE HAS RECENTLY BEEN CHARGED IT MAY STILL BE GASSING, COVER THE VENT PLUGS OR COVERS WITH A DAMP CLOTH TO REDUCE THE RISK OF EXPLOSION SHOULD ARCING OCCUR WHEN CONNECTING THE JUMP LEADS.

Turn off all electrical ancillary circuits such as radio, lights, indicators etc. If the reason for a flat battery is unknown the condition may be as a result of an electrical short circuit, so care must be taken during the Jump-start process and subsequent to connection to ascertain if this is the case. A short circuit or un-isolated ancillary load can cause arcing when the jump leads are connected, a small 'crackle' is normal but any spark or flash is an indication of a problem that should be rectified before attempting to Jump-Start the vehicle.

Jaguar do not recommended that the vehicle is jump started, and If at all possible it is preferable to replace the flat battery with a suitable fully charged unit rather than jump-start the car. However if it is done it should be carried out by suitably qualified personel. Garage services and services like AA and RAC homestart should be used whenever possible.

Obviously there are occasions when carrying out this proceedure yourself is the only practical way proceed.

If there is no option but to jump-start the discharged battery should be removed and recharged immediately after jump starting to avoid permanent damage.

High quality, heavy duty Jump leads must be used as the current consumption during starting is very high, and a voltage loss will be
exhibited though the jump leads, increasing current requirement.

Make sure that the Jump Start battery is of the same voltage as the vehicle, and suitable to provide the required starting current.

MAKE SURE THAT THE ENDS OF THE JUMP LEADS DO NOT TOUCH EACH OTHER OR GROUND AGAINST THE VEHICLE BODY AT ANY TIME WHILE THE LEADS ARE ATTACHED TO THE BATTERY. ARCING AND VERY RAPID DISCHARGE CAN CAUSE THE BATTERY TO EXPLODE.

Connect the jump leads in the following sequence.
Connect Positive Jump Lead to Jump Start battery positive terminal.
Connect Positive Jump Lead to Vehicle battery positive terminal.
Connect Negative Jump Lead to Jump Start battery negative terminal.
Connect Negative Jump Lead to a suitable vehicle ground point at least, 300 mm (12 in) from the battery terminal e.g. engine lifting bracket, do not do not connect directly to the vehicle battery terminal.

Start the vehicle and rev to 2000 rpm, then allow tickover for 5-10 minutes.

Do not attempt continued repeated starting of the vehicle, this will cause heat build up at the terminals and though the jump leads degrading the leads performance and adding to voltage loss.

Allow 3-4 minutes recovery time for the leads and Jump Start battery between attempts to start.

Before disconnecting the jump leads, switch on the heated rear screen, to reduce the alternator voltage peak when the leads are removed, as this can damage electronic equipment.

Disconnect the jump leads in the reverse order to the connecting sequence taking great care not to short the ends of the leads.

Do not rely on the alternator to restore a discharged battery.
Ensure that the battery is recharged or replaced with a fully recharged unit
as soon as possible.

Following Jump-starting of a compleately discharged battery, you may need to carry out a Green ECM drive Cycle, this will allow the powertrain control module to 're-learn' idle values, and most likely need to re-enter your radio code, details of these can be found at. http://www.bluejag.co.uk

My battery is always drained after I stop driving the x5?


Is the battery and the battery connection in good conditions? Try to charge the battery overnight with a battery charger. If then it starts your engine, the battery may be ok.
I recently had an issue with my car that the connection to the battery was corroded that was not visible just by looking at the battery. The connection had to be cleaned and solved the issue.
If the battery and generator in your vehicle is ok, then it must be a short circuit in the car that drains the battery. Locating that may require shop visit.

How to jump a BMW 320


All vehicles with a 12 Volt Positive system are jump started in the same manner.

If done properly, you should always connect the +Pos side on the battery in the vehicle that should be running, then connect that same cable to the +Pos side on the low battery. Then, you connect the
-Neg side on the running vehicle, and now connect the other -Neg end to a solid ground on the vehicle with the low battery. You really want a good connection for this on a solid part of the engine/trans., since when you attempt to start the car, it will be drawing 400-700 Amps.
(Alternator bracket, exhaust manifold, a sling point, etc. wil do.)

Some people hook to the -Neg side of the low battery, but that can cause sparks as well as an explosion if hydrocarbons are coming out of the low battery.

A completely fried battery can cause the vehicle providing the jump start to stall and can even damage components if not connected properly.

Most newer vehicles have a little secrete. As part of the safety system, ( to protect consumers from risk of explosion due to gases emmited by the battery ), you can do damage to your vehicle if you do not jump start the vehicle properly.

I believe Volvo usually has the car battery in the back of the vehicle near the tire storage space.
If you hooked the red cable to the red side of the battery, and the black cable to the black side of the battery on your vehicle, you likely damaged several electrical components and it usually requires the consumer to have to go to the dealership to have them trace the damaged components.

If this doesn't apply to you, that's wonderful, but please, warn family and friends about the potential damage from jump starting.

The vehicle providing the jump is hooked up normally, but, the impared vehicle should first have the red cable connected to the battery, BUT the ground, or black cable has to be connected to the engine block, or car frame. If not, it will short circuit a number of electronic parts.

My car would not start had it jumped and white smoke came out of the engine the negative was hooked up, then I read not suppose to jump with the negative to negative. Anyway got it started, then none of...


As long as the smoke did not come from the wiring or the battery it's OK. Neg to neg connection is for safety reasons(To prevent short circuit) so if you did not see major sparking you should be allright. Rats can cause havoc in a car. They simply love the insulating plastic on electrical wiring. Look for chewed wiring and re-insulate.
ps. Jump starting is not the cure all for a dead battery. Especially if the car's been standing for a long time.(long periods of inactivity are not kind to a vehicle) Cold weather makes things that much worse. Get the battery properly re-charged.

you can jump directly to the battery. the procedure for doing this is as follows connect the positive cable to the dead vehicle(yours) then connect the ground cable either to the battery or to the engine block. then conect the positve cable to the jump vehicle then connect the ground. start the jump vehicle and rev engine to 1500-2000 rpm for 2 minutes. let vehicle idle for 5 minutes. then try and start dead vehicle. sometimes the whole thing takes 10 to 15 minutes to be successfull. please rate the solution.........thanks
