Refrigerator freezing food

Fridge thermostat dials are often problematical due to the ones that are numbered 1 to 10, is 1 the warmest or the coldest as the number is lower? Some companies put 'warmer' and 'colder' which avoids confusion. My advice, put it in the middle '5', and leave overnight, check the temperature in the morning with a fridge thermometer. Then change the thermostat dial to 8, and check it the next morning with a thermometer. The next day put it on 1, and leave overnight, check the temperature in the morning. If the thermostat has gone, all three morning temperatures will be the same.

You mention 'or as your website suggests', you know we are not Frigidaire or anything to do with the retailer? We are Fixya, people just like you, helping others. I am a caterer, and just happen to know about fridges. I get them repaired professionally, but always ask for a full explanation of what went wrong. We recently had a sandwich storage fridge that was freezing food, and it was the thermostat that needed replacing.

The things you did, cleaning the coils, will actually make the fridge run colder. The Defrost Thermostat is unlikely to be the problem, as when they don't work, the evaporator, the part that is where the chilled air comes from turns into a block of ice. When that happens, air can't pass through it and the fridge warms considerably.

Due to the damage this freezing is causing with your water and filter, I would suggest you call a service engineer and get it fixed professionally as you will be swapping out parts that are fine. Correct diagnosis is the key, and they will also check the gas pressure at the same time. Consumers can't work with refrigerant gas, it is *******.

Our top mount refridgerator is leaking water into the fridge. The water pours out of a thingy at the back of the fridge that seems to be connected to the defroster. My husband watched it pour out of the...

it happens whenever the fridge goes on defrost. The problem is that the drain hole in the freezer is clogged. so whenever its in defrost, there is no where for the water to go so it flows into refrigerated compartment. you have to remove everything from freezer and remove the back panel. the drain hole is right below the evaporator. use a screw driver to break up the ice, you can use a coat hanger in the drain hole to clear the clog. pouring boiling hot water in the drain hole will help. listen for the water running into the drain pan, once you hear the water running down, you know its safe to put the freezer back together.

No wate coming out the dispeser

The plastic water resivoir in the fridge compartment is frozen. Need to locate the resivoir which is at the bottom of the fridge and by using a hairdrier, warm the plastic resivoir for about 6 minuites. Suggest you turn the fridge off while doing this. retry and dispence water.

obviously a filter leak. the water shuts off when the filter is removed. either it wasn't installed properly or it has a bad gasket. as for the fridge getting warm, the water probably collected and froze to the evaporator coils and now resrticts the cold air flow. you need to turn off the fridge, empty it out, leave the freezer door open, and let the coils defrost on their own. or remove the back panel in the freezer and defrost the coils with a hair dryer. you will need to soak up some water, but not nearly as much. once it's defrosted, dry it out, close the doors and turn it on while it's empty. when it's cold enough, replace the food.

Water pools on floor

Check for a blocked defrost drain. Take the panel off at the back of the freezer section and find the small hole at the very bottom center below the cooling coils. Use hot (but not boiling) water and a turkey baster to flush it out until water runs through it. (it will go into the defrost drain pan, where it will evaporate)

Samsung refrigerator freezer not freezing

-2 although below freezing temperature, is not really enough to keep food really frozen. I am presuming we are talking in Celcuis. You need to set the freezer to a lower setpoint.

Freezing in the fridge in the salad tray [behind]

If the fridge is not set too low there are a couple of fixes. First test the temp in the center of the fridge with an accurate thermometer. If it is registering below 35 in the center of the unit, set it to a warmer temp.

If it is cooling in the 35 to 41 range the setting is good. Then you should clean out the fridge and shut it off. When it reaches room temp. place several pans (like cookie sheets or cake pans) of boiling water on the shelves. Allow it to sit with the water overnight (door closed) The next morning remove the water trays and wipe off any moisture that has accumulated inside. Restart and then (when cold) restock. The issue should be resolved.
