Question about Western Digital WD Caviar Green WD10EARS - hard drive - 1 TB - SATA-300 (43051R) Category: Internal s SATA II

1 Answer

Hi, I want to know how to install the WD10EARS-00Y5B1 drivers? Okay, the problem is, that my computer doesn't recognise my SATA Hard Disk. I have Windows 7 Home Premium, and another SATA Hard Drive. I removed that old SATA hard, and connected WD Hard Disk to that slot. What should I do? It doesn't appear even in Disk Managament.

I tried all the solutions i have found, but anything don't work. In windows 7 hard drive wasn't shown. I've installed the windows xp now, then plugged the drive into another windows xp computer, and there it was shown up, then I formatted it with a NTFS, all works. When I came home, plugged in the HDD, it wasn't shown anywhere. What should I do? Maybe I will install windows xp on my old sata hard, then i'll see, because now I have one IDE and one SATA hard.

There are no drivers required for a hard drive.
Windows 7 should automatically detect the new hard drive and it should show up in disk management to format or prompt you to format.
Check your cable connections again.
Otherwise your new hard drive may be DOA. Return it to the store that you purchased from.

check to see if your SATA port on the bios is disabled.

you can get to the bios setup by holding either f2 or del key on your keyboard when you turn on the computer. it may be different on ur pc but it will ask you to press a key to enter the bios.

once you enable the SATA port you should be able to see the hard drive.

If you are installing Windows XP then -
The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Whenever i connect a SATA hard disk on my ATI Radeon Xpress 200 chipset motherboard and try to install an operatin system it says no hard disk found please solve my problem

The chipset in your motherboard doesn't have in it a controller for the SATA, it uses an external one - ULI M1573. For it to be activated and the disk detected its driver must be already in the install disk. Unfortunately the XP install disk doesn't have any SATA drivers and the ULI driver isn't included in the original Vista disk . So you must add it on a floppy during install Here it is http://download.cnet.com/ULi-SATA-Controller-M1573/3000-18492_4-159398.html

Windows XP needs the SATA textmode drivers for it to recognise the SATA hard drive. This can be downloaded from this link:
http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=2391
You will need the SATA AHCI driver

You must then burn the drivers to a CD or copy to a USB stick. When installing windows XP, you will be prompted "press F6" to load additional drivers, at this point the install will ask you to specify where these drivers can be found, if you direct it to the USB or CD Rom (USB is better to avoid disc swapping), it should find the drivers needed and then recognise your hard drive.

The above is a bit academic though, because this does not appear to support Windows XP according to the downloads options on the link

Western digital wd10ears not detected in xp

If this is a second drive you will need to format it by going to Control Panel > System Tools > Computer Management. Select Storage > Disk Management. If you see your drive, format it and it should work.

If this is the drive you would like to use for your operating system you may have bad drivers. Western Digital has a how-to about this problem (url below). Essentially what you need to do is re-install the drivers for your controller card or motherboard. This requires finding the drivers from the manufacturer of that device.

try adding the harddrive to another system as a slave and check the integrity of the drive with chkdisk. if it is not showing up, then there is an internal problem with the harddrive and must be replaced.

The hard disk may be set to Enhanced AHCI SATA mode. Look for Legacy or IDE mode setting in BIOS menu options.
XP SP2 does not recognise Enhanced SATA mode hard disks.
see http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/10/23/windows-xp-setup-could-not-detect-and-find-any-sata-hard-disk-drive-on-ahci-mode/
You may be able to use NLite to make a CD which has correct SATA drivers.

My dvd rw is not detected

Sounds like you need your manufacturer's SATA drivers.

This problem exists a lot when installing Windows from scratch on SATA hard disks. When you start the installation, Windows prompts you to "load additional drivers". It's at this point you put a floppy disk with the SATA drivers in.

If your install is already working, but just stopped as you say... then you could hunt around the BIOS for a SATA "compatibility" mode, which will get you booting straight away. Install the SATA drivers and you can then put the drive back into normal operation instead of compatibility mode.

This is also the reason why your other hard disk with Windows can see the SATA disk and optical drive... it probably has the SATA drivers installed.
