Question about HP Photosmart C5280 Printer

1 Answer

How can I obtain accurate black and white from my H.P.PhotosmartC5280 printer? I get colour casts of sepia, blue or magenta, even when I remove all colour in Photoshop Elements 6. I know several ways of converting to black and white but none print out accurately.

My printer prints in green not other colours

Most printers have 4 color inks: Black, magenta, cyan, yellow.
If your magenta ink isn't printing, then your prints will have a green cast.
If your printer has a "nozzle test", I suggest doing that. If it has a "head clean" function, that may help.
Replacing the magenta ink cart may be all that's needed.

My black and white photos will only print out in sepia. I have plenty of ink in the Cartridges of my MP610. Please help?

Two possibilities come to mind:
  1. There is a function in many printers that lets you print in the single colour of your choice. Check every tab and every "advanced..." dialog box you get when you are about to print. Then go to the printer's properties in the control panel and check whether there's anything like that
  2. Many printers let you print black with black ink, OR alternatively make black by mixing the other three colours CMY. Look for that setting in the same places and deactivate it

Canon pixma ip3600 blue colour cast

I don't get true B&W but only 1/2 a Gnats knacker off it, if you send for a test print from say Ilford you'll notice that it's not B&W but a warm tone very slightly sepia.
I use cheapo inks bought on eBay so none of the settings in software are of any use. I disable any attempt by the software to influence the printer and do the same in the printer settings window. I then alter the colours using the sliders in the Manual section of the colour/intensity to the colour that I see on my screen and save the setting in the profiles section.
I use the iP3600 and have found it very good indeed, after lots of experiments I've settled on a sepia tone reminiscent of Sodium Sulphide but without the nasty smell.

After changing the toner cartridge of an HP3600 the printer calibrated but then has started printing in a Sepia type colour and not giving a true colours

Any chance you just changed the magenta cartridge? Your problem sounds like a defective cartridge, which happens often if you are using a refilled or remanufactured unit. From the front control panel you can go to troubleshooting menu and then pq troubleshooting to print a set of pages that consists of"

1 page of each color cartridge
1 white page
1 configurationpage
1 page that tells you how to use the pq troubleshooting pages

If the sepia problem is accross all of these pages then if most likley is the magenta cartridge that is bad. If it is only one page that is bad the color that is bad will be the bad cartridge.

What does it mean when it says change k cartridge

There should be four ink cartridges inside the printer: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and blacK.

While monitors build colours out of three emissive (active) base colours, red, green and blue, printers usually build them out of four absorbing (passive) inks, so-called CMYK. The black is referred to by its last letter to avoid confusion with Blue.

On most printers, since they usually print in black ink over white paper (and black is used to darken all other colours), the K cartridge is either bigger than the others, or needs to be replaced more often.

Epson cx3200 wrong colour

It is possible that when the printer senses not enough black ink it will swap to using the colour tanks to try and make a BLACK.

It is also possible that you have mistakenly adjusted a setting in the epson printer program to use the colour tanks to print black and white photographs.

Either of those would certainly cause the problem you describe

Check ALL your printer settings both the windows ones AND your epson ones

Epson R265 printing colours incorrectly

For the black and white issue, check the settings and make sure that it isn't set on "sepia". As for the color issue, it is quite possible that you are out of ink. Printers may use more of one color than another depending on what you're printing. Change your color cartridge.
