I presume Red Hat 5.4?? what is the Desktop distribution (if using a desktop)???, what are the exact make and model numbers of the peripherals that are not working in the computer (video card, lan card, sound card)??? did the computer came with Linux pre-installed??, I'm more of a DEBIAN base Linux with a Gnome desktop distro user... but maby I can help... also what are the exact problems with all those cards??? starting with the network card... Hi,
This problem seems to be associated with Boot loading files. Try this: 1. Boot the Windows XP CD-ROM. 2. Choose the Install option. 3. Next screen, there will be option to select Repair your Windows Installation. 4. Once repair is over, you shall be able to boot your system.
Thanks

Laptop sony vaio VGN CS230J shuts down every 5 to 10 minutes but when started on safe mode stays on

Hi there,

Which is the operating system?

we need to see why it only works in safe mode - have a look in device manager
start>
control panel>
system>
hardware tab>
device manager button>

also any ! X or ?

------------------------
you may be able to do a recovery
start>
programs>
accessories>
system tools>
recovery>

see if you can go back to before you had the problem

what does last known good configuration do

have you got any keys stuck on keyboard - like F8

if new maybe worth sending it back under warranty.
