To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

In case of your Acer laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper and I wouldn't recommend doing it especially if it's under warranty.

I was looking for step-by-step install guide to putting new hard drive and loading Windows XP on my Dell Inspiron E1505?? I purchased a WD 320GB SATA hard drive to replace my dead 80gb hard drive....Dell...

All you've got to do is:

1) Insert the new hard drive.
2) Press the F8 key as the laptop boots. This will take you into the BIOS.
3) Locate the disk drive priority setting in the bios.
4) Set Priority 1 to your CD/DVD drive and priority 2 to the 320GB hard drive.
5) Save settings and exit the BIOS. This should reboot your laptop.
6) Insert the Windows XP CD.
7) It should not start the setup as it recognises the CD.
8) I will recommend that you format the drive before you install, go along with the format (make sure it does a full format).
9) After the format it will reboot your system.
10) You will be prompted with a message like "Press any key to boot form CD", DON'T press anything otherwise it will start all over again.
11) Now it should start the install. Follow the on-screen instructions.

It wont load windows xp even with the recovery disc it just keeps saying boot with any key

You may have set the boot priority in the CMOS. If so, enter the CMOS setup and set the priority to "boot from HDD" This may not fix your problem, but it is a start. If it still wants to boot from another source, the HDD master boot record (MBR) is corrupt, or the HDD has failed.

Error message NTLDR missing on formatted hard drive

You need to either reinstall windows, or take the hard drive out, hook it up as a spare drive to a working computer and copy NTDLR to the root of the laptop hard drive. It would be much easier to reinstall windows. You can always use the recovery portion of Windows, but if I were you I would just do a format and reinstall. NTDLR is just a startup file for Windows XP, that does not mean your hard drive is gone or anything. Please don't forget to rate!..Thanks

I was formatting my hp(dv2000tu)recovary partion but when i want to install xp by any cd my harddisk ware not detacted but vista is installed with out causing any problem

First is your hard disk a removable one/external hard drive?6ea4669.png if you receive this image, then it probably means you have a SATA hard drive, and your bios is set to Raid/SATA mode.

First, go to your bios settings, then change SATA mode into IDE. This should be under something like "On-Chip SATA".

Or, you can go to http://www.nliteos.com then download the program to install the needed drivers to the xp installation CD.

Hope this helps, and please rate ^_^

Supervisor password...

I'm not sure what is meant by it being on top of the bios password, I'll need more info.

However, A bios password can be reset by removing the coin cell battery for 15 seconds from underside of most laptops in a compartment with a cover removable by a screw(s).

If the password is not part of the bios it is on the hard drive. The only way I no of wiping out an operating system password such as in windows xp is to do a fressh install of the operating system wiping out the old one.

Other than that the only other place I could think of there being a password is on the boot sector of the hard drive and formatting the boot sector and repartitioning the hard drive wiping out all data can remove any password on the hard drive.

How to install windows xp

here are some tips:
please open your BIOS setting for boot sequence and make sure your CD drive is indicated as a boot

BIOS must be set to boot from CD before hard drive.
That is, the CD drive should the be in the 1st boot sequence followed by the hard drive (2nd boot device). Then, try to follow the follwing steps:

1.Formatting an XP System Disk by booting from the XP CD is accomplished by loading the Recovery Console by typing R at the first window.
2. After selecting the Windows installation you want to access and typing in the Admin password [leave blank if no password was created] you will see a command prompt.
3. Type Map and press ENTER
4. Note the letter designation of the drive you want to format. [write it down]
5. type format x: /fs:fat32 then press ENTER, where x is the drive letter you want to format. Substitute NTFS or FAT if desired.
6. Type Y to confirm your selection and then type exit and press ENTER to restart computer.
7. To view other format commands, type format /? and press ENTER at the RC command prompt.
