Laptop problems... Hello!..my daughters laptop is having problems..you must start it,5-10 times before it will even try to boot..most of the time, the screen does not light up,the power and wifi light come on,and the hard drive light comes on for 2-4seconds,then nothing else happens,I must turn it off..you know when it's going to try to boot, because the screen lights up..then it will sometimes ask if I want to go to the repair console, which sometimes goes all the way through whatever it does, other times it freezes..other times,it asks if you want to start normally,or start in safe mode, but it may freeze before you get Vista to start..if Vista does start,it seems fine...until it shuts off without warning,or freezes..I've had it run for several hours yesterday without freezing/shutting off...I dont think its an overheating problem, because no where on the case is hot,and the heat sink and fan are quite clean..oh,several time I was able to use the recovery disk, and twice did what I think would be called minimal format..it erased the os partitions, and reinstalled Vista..then,once I did the full scale fix(whatever the recovery disc does)which wiped out all my daughters pics and music....can you give me any ideas where to look?

My daughters c300 gets smart failture predicted says f1 screen goes blank please help

Hmm, I hope for you that my hunch turns out to be wrong. That S.M.A.R.T failure is related to the laptop's hard disk drive. And the failure is not just predicted to happen soon; it sounds like it is happening. Something is wrong with the hard drive, and that something is unlikely to go away.
When this appears, you should press the F1 key and hope Windows starts. If it does, do something ASAP to save any important documents your daughter might have on the computer. You might take it to a neighbor, friend, relative, or shop you trust and have them transfer those documents to, say, a USB key for temporary safekeeping. Then it's time to replace the hard drive inside with a new one (no, they're not extremely expensive), re-install Windows and other programs, and then transfer the documents back onto the PC.
If the laptop just stops working after pressing F1, it's perhaps too late. A more experienced PC technician can see if he/she can save those aforementioned documents or data from the misbehaving drive. Or if you daughter says, "Nah, there was nothing on there I need to recover," then you can skip straight to replacing the hard drive (and reinstalling everything).

Good luck!

My cursor is frozen an i can not use the computer even if i boot my laptop

Hello.

Either you have a memory issue or operating system problem.

First, disconnect all cables. Be certain to dispel static electricity by touching metal. Remove the cover. Try reseating (removing and reinserting) your memory (try one module at a time to test).

If still a problem, boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly). Go to System Restore and choose a date when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, everything, including your documents and other files you saved on the hard drive, will roll back to that date.

Hope this helps.

My daughters Toshiba satellite l505d will not boot up correctly. It starts but then nothing happens. What do I need to do. Have already taken battery out and restarted. Any help would be helpful.

Try the following.
1. Remove battery and plug in the AC Adapter and check if it works
If yes - Battery is defective
If no - Motherboard Problem/AC adapter

2. Check the AC adapter LED indicator if its lighted or not(double check by a multitester)
If lighted - it works properly
if not - replace
3. Try to reinstall WINDOWS operating system by the use of the installer CD
4. Reformat your computer and install necessary drivers and applications

Thanks. Cheers!

Unfortunately it sounds like bad memory. Depending on your memory configuration you can try swithing out memory sticks. Check with your manufacture about memory configuation requirment before trying this. If you're unsure how to do this it's best to take it to someone who does know how.

Laptop Won't Boot

Hi,

Vaios are prone to faulty Ram ( memory Slots ) The only suggestion i can offer.
Is to remove and re-seat the CPU. this ocassionally solves the problem. if the laptops been dropped or banged. the cpu may have worked loose. but you,ll be looking at either ram or processor. failing this you can assume that theres a motherboard fault.

Thankyou For using Fixya.

Unable to start laptop

Hello,

I understand the urgency and also the importance of data stored in the laptop.

As the laptop is unable to start in normal mode let us try in safe mode.

Follow the steps below:

1. Turn the laptop off completely.
2. Press the power on button to turn it on and at the same time simultaneously keep tapping ' F8 ' key on key pad until you see a advanced boot options screen.
3. Select 'safe mode' and hit enter.

Thank you.

It wont start up

Could be this is a driver error on boot up, when it starts to boot up keep pressing F8, this will bring up the safe mode menu, look for the line and highlight 'Last Known Good Configuration' and press Enter. If this works all is well, but if not press F8 again o boot up but this time highlight the line 'Start Windows in Safe Mode'. If the laptop then boots up in safe mode without shutting down, run your anti virus and spyware programmes. If non found and the laptop still has'nt crashed, then it's a driver problem (as not all the drivers load up in safe mode) and you will need to try a system restore to before the problem started.
