This dryer has automatic gas assembly. No pilot light. The gas assembly receives power from the control thermostat and fuse mounted on the blower. All of the components are energized at once but the gas will not be ignited untill the glowbar has reaced 1800f and tripped the flame detection sensor mounted beside the burn chamber. Once that happens the ignitor becomes a self generating thermocouple allowing power to energize the solenoids. So what goes wrong? Fuse blown from clogged filter chute, open flame detector, bad glowbar, iffy solenoids that work once then get hot and fail only to work again once they cool off. Here is my home made video showing how it works:

Lighting pilot light on kitchenaid dryer

It is all automatic, when you press start the power is sent to the gas assembly (if the timer is set for heat). The power originates from the cord to the timer to the temp control (on the blower housing) to the fuse next to the control, and to the gas assembly. The solenoids ignitor and flame sensor are all energized at once. The solenoids cannot release the gas unless the ignitor drops out of the circuit. That is the job of the flame sensor. Once the sensors bi-metal bends and opens the circuit, no more power goes to the ignitor< hoever, once the ignitor is glowing it generats a signal and becomes a thermogenerator with holds open the solenoid (holding coil) If for some reason the gas did not ignite the glow coil will cool off and shut down the solenoid. So what can go wrong? Lint buildup in the blower housing cause the fuse to melt. No power can be sent to the gas assembly. The flame sensor is open and not allowing power to the ignitor, the ignitor is open and not glowing. Old timey dryers had a pilot light. You hold down on the red lever and light the flame. Then release the lever and the pilot stays lit. I doubt if yours has a standing pilot. How modern gas dryer work:

How to light the pilot. The pilot went off when I shut the power off during the Irene storm. I cannot locate where to open so I can light the pilot. I have a GE Profile Gas Dryer, Mod.PDSR 610GG8WT

unless this is a very very old dryer,, it will have a glow plug element in it and should light without the need to light a pilot, just try starting it and see if it lights, But it would have to be ages old to need a pilot lit, I'll try and locate that model, But lemme know if it fires up will ya

How do you relight the pilot on a kenmore 80 series gas dryer?

Their is no pilot light. The system uses a glowbarce9a48b.jpgOPERATION
The newer dryers use a silicone carbide ignitor for ignition. If the Fuse is ok482c508.jpg the gas assembly gets power from the control thermostatfa8083a.jpg. The flame sensor allows the ignitor to go cat go. The coils themselves10e9e78.jpg cannot open the gas because the ignitor is using a lot of power. When flame detectc5ddc7a.jpg gets warm enough then it shuts down the ignitor and power is redirected on the other side of the 3 prong coil. The ignitor is not finished. It now is hot enough to act as a path to the secondary coil which energizes and sends that raw gas to the 1800f screaming hot ignitor. Igniton occurs and keeps the ignitor hot. If ignition at this point were to fail the ignitor would cool down and shut off the power to the secondary coil. Clever ain't it? So what can go wrong? Worn out flame sensor takes longer to reset, ignitor open. Clogged vent012c9c0.jpg overheat fuse blown, bad thermostat, and faulty solenoids. If all is good it should continually shut on and off all during the cycle to regulate the heat

I have an older Maytag D8512 with an electric igniter. When I push the start button, nothing happens. I checked the pilot light and it is off. I used a long matchstick to see if I could start the pilo

there is no pilot light. electric igniter will glow and pull amps allowing gas valve to open. if you do not see igniter glow it is bad or thermal fuse has blown. look for 120 volts at the igniter when running. if voltage found bad igniter, if no voltage trace back to fuse/stats.this assumes dryer is actually running. if drum not turning could be a number of things. door switch, fuse, etc

Th pilot won't start ,motor start but won't light the pilot

I have a Kenmore Series 80 (Model # 66812694, Stock # 66812) that will not start. The light comes on, but no power when you push the start button. I have checked the fuse box and everything is fine. I've also tried unplugging for 10-15 minutes and replugging it in, but no success. Any suggestions?

Maytag gas oven doesn't heat, but oven's pilot light is on.

Get the oven checked out by a professional, if you have a gas leak you can easily blow up the entire house and you with it. I think you have a faulty gas valve based on what you wrote

1317150009709 frigidaire dryer0how do i get at the pilot light or

There are 2 house fuses in the dryer circuit. If
1 of the 2 fuses is blown, the drum may turn
but the heater will not operate.
Gas supply valve is not open (gas models).
Dryer does not have anough air supply to
support the burner flame (gas models).
LP gas supply tank is empty or there has been
a utility interruption of natural gas (gas
models).Replace fuse.
Check to make sure supply valve is open. See INSTALLATION
INSTRUCTIONS for procedure.
See INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.
Refill or replace tank.
Dryer should heat when utility service is restored

Kenmore dryer not heating

hi,
1) When this happens, something has interrupted the heat source. Run the dryer for a couple of minutes to see if it gets hot. Be sure you don't have the dial or controls on a non-heat setting, such as "Fluff" or "Wrinkle Control."

2) On an electric dryer, this may mean that the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the power has blown; reset or replace this. Be aware that a dryer may have two breakers or fuses. The motor will run when one works, but the heating element requires both.

3) On a gas dryer, recheck the control's setting to be sure it's not on a heat-free setting. Check the gas valve behind the dryer to be sure the gas supply is turned on. Also make sure the house's main gas valve is turned on.

4) Most modern dryers have electronic ignition instead of a pilot light. If yours has electronic ignition and isn't heating, call a qualified repairperson.

On an older dryer, make sure the pilot light is burning. If it isn't, relight it. You can find directions in your owner's manual, and pilot light instructions are often mounted next to the pilot light on the burner, too.

Thanks for using FixYa
