Question about Panasonic DMR-ES30VEBS

1 Answer

Model DMR-ES30VEB. I have had this recorder for a few years now but since I got a new Sony TV at christmas I am having problems recording. When I record a programme the DVD says it does not recognise the disc, and I cannot finalise. I am using the same discs as before (sony DVD-RW). Would it be a problem with the Discs, what would you recommend. Thanks B

DVD-RW discs are ideal for temporary video recording and data backup, but they are not recommended for successful finalising, as there is no guarantee that the disc will work in another device.

Have you tried using DVD-R discs? these CAN be recorded in video mode AND finalised for compatible playback in other players. I assume the DMR-ES30V is a DVD/VCR combo unit - if so, the DVD recorder will not recognise RW discs; only DVD-RAM and DVD-R.

DVD-R discs are recommended for video recording and finalising in this model. (later model Panasonic DVD recorders allow RW disc recording).

DVD-RW has always been a problem disc format with the early series of Panasonic DVD recorders. Just change to DVD+R/DVD-R and try those - (do not use DVD-R DL (dual layer) discs; these will NOT work in this unit) DVD-R/+R should work fine.

If those fail also, maybe it's time to consider replacing the recorder - but only as a last resort and/or it fails completely. This after all is a 2005 model, and even though it suggests DVD-RW/-R/+R/DVD-RAM recording on the front, the -RW recording option is often not reliable. Be careful when using DVD-R/+R discs - as you can only record once per disc.

All it should cost you here is a pack of DVD-R/+R discs, and you can keep all the DVD-RW discs you used so far - put them aside or use them on your PC.

Display reads slf check and u99 whichIthink is a fault code. The unit is apanasonic DMR-ES30VEB dvd recorder/vhs.Any ideas?

Hi
U99 is a fault code, from memory i believe it is a communication error between the dvd drive and its controller, either way the machine needs to be serviced.

I have a Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-ES30VEB could you please tell me if this will still be able to record if I buy a new Panasonic digital TV??

Yes, connect to AV2 and you can select the output for AV2 from the menu.
Most tv's send a selectable signal out through av2 but if you match to your Panasonic, you may find it will automatically set up with the dvd recorder(like Sony Smartlink)
You simply go into the menu, select the av2 output set up and pick what you want to record. I.E. dvt, av1 etc.

Panasonic DVD problems

sorry to say but both of these sound like loader problems.ie the optics are faulty, you have to replace the full assy called a loader assy when this happens.Panasonic are the only company who offer part exchange tru authorised dealers.ie send back the faulty one and they will give reduced price on new one,.As to other makes see a lot of sonys with optic problems as well so isint just a panasonic problem. You could also try using ordinary dvdrs instead of ram discs as the optic has to work harder when recording and playing ram disc due to information contained.Hope I helped!
