This can be caused by 4 things-

A stuck button on the hand controller.

A bad hand controller cable

A burned out circuit board inside

A burned out Azimuth motor

(Long shot) bad firmware in the hand controller. DO a Reset and reload the firmware.

Try to borrow another hand controller and buy a new cable. If these two do not fix it then it's a mechanical problem or a circuit board problem inside the scope.

Meade can repair this but you will need to send them the scope:

I assume you have tightened the DEC knob on the side of the fork.

Then the gears are not engaging properly inside the forkarm. The scope will need to be disassembled to fix it. Go to the "Mighty ETX" web site and start reading the posts on the ETX80.

I am looking for someone in Michigan near Sunfield, I have a Meade ETX125PE that I would like someone to help me with. e-mail address is petew@cablespped.com and petew@twincityfoods.com.

Contact a local Astronomy club nearby and the members will help you with the scope.

Also this is the general setup for the NON- PE version of this scope.

1. Do a calibrate motors

2. Train the drives

3. Take the scope outside and level the tripod.

4. Put the scope in the HOME position (read the manual)

5. Execute a 2 star alignment and center both stars.

Motor tries but cannot move on the horizontal. Moves fine on the vertical. Usage only in Alt/Az mode. Only have the electronic controller that came with the scope.

You did tighten the AZ clutch? You did start from the HOME position? (turn the scope Counterclockwise to the hard stop)

Then you will either have to send it back to Meade for repairs, or open the bottom of the base, and look inside and see if the AZ worm gear is actually meshing with the motor. It could have come loose.

My MEADE etx 105 telescope remote wont turn on but my telescope will. Can you tell me what my problem is please.

Could be just a bad hand controller cable. Check with Meade for a new one.

ETX125 PE new model. Elevation has totally stopped.

Could be that the DEC motor driver has died. That could be verified by swapping the connections between the RA and DEC. If the DEC now moves, then that is the problem. If not, then the DEC motor is bad.

Azimuth motor gearing problem

Sounds like it could be that the worm gear is not meshing

One of the gears in the Azimuth motor got a flat spot because the worm gear was adjusted too tight. It is a 24 tooth nylon straight gear, very small- only about 1 cm across, but if this gear isn't working...
