Question about ASUS AC Adapter- Universal Notebook AC Power Adapter (NBACA407D2) Power Supply

1 Answer

The pin in the laptop of my ASUS model G73JW that plugs into the AC charger has broken off twice. I sent it in once already and not two weeks later the same thing happened. I am not rough with my computers and have never had this problem before. I also notice that most of the other computers I have seen have a pin securely placed in the AC charger and NOT the computer housing. Anyone else have this problem?

I've seen this issue on an HP computer before. For some odd reason, some models decided to use "cost efficient" housing around the AC power unit on the inside of the laptop housing. If you know how to replace it yourself, I would recommend just acquiring the piece and replacing it on your own. There are some sellers on eBay who do provide quality products which are assembled with the highest standards.

SOURCE: Burning smell on my laptop

Unless you have the ability to to replace the plug connector part yourself, you will have to take it in to a shop who can do that kind of fine soldering for you. If nothing else is damaged, it should be ok with replacing just that burnt out part.

SOURCE: my eee pc charger did snow show a blue light when

In order for to check if the charger is working properly, you can remove the battery and use the charger only. and observe for about 1 to 2 hours if your computer did not shutdown then your charger is still good.

If you still have warranty with asus much better if you ask them to replace your charger and that's for free.

SOURCE: asus Eeee pc will not charge

Hi, try to discard the memory modules. then extract the battery and try without it. check the HDD by extracting it and trying to start the machine. If you dont detect any damaged component, then you have to review electronically the Motherboard.

Thanks for rating!!!

SOURCE: My ASUS Eee 1000HE netbook

it could be the pin on the inside of the machine. The jack is tiny and the pin may not be connecting to the proper wires any longer. I had a similar problem with a compaq had to be soldered for a temporary fix, the netbook itself has to be taken in. It's the only flaw I see with these machines.

I would be tempted to leave laptop switched off and turn power plug on to charge up the battery before i use it for a couple of hrs at least and hopefully this will put some charge into the battery

they say that if you continously use the laptop with the power cord plugged in then you could
remove the battery completly to extend the battery life and just use the cord

that way the battery will last many years longer

Broken power plugin port

The power plug in port you refer to is the DC Power Jack.

The AC adapter (Charger) converts AC electricity into DC electricity.
DC electricity has two poles. Positive, and Negative.
(Just like on a D cell flashlight battery)

The center pin of the DC Power Jack is the Positive connection.
The outer metal spring-like pieces, on the inside of the cylindrical shape surrounding the center pin, are the Negative connection.
(The pieces of spring-like metal, all connect to the Negative connection in the DC Power Jack)

Example of a replacement DC Power Jack, for the Asus Eee PC 1005HA Netbook,

[ Note*
Cannot agree with the replacement instructions they offer, at the bottom of the page.
Not everyone has access to a hot-air gun. A 25 Watt soldering iron, and Desoldering Braid, is better, and more easily accessed ]

A few articles dealing with replacement of a DC Power Jack,

1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter, (Charger), and Battery.
2) Observe Anti-Static Precautions. Buy, and use an ESD wrist strap.
Electro Static Discharge.

(Average cost is from $3 to $6. Connect the alligator clip to a good ground source.
I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an open, empty desktop computer case.

If you wish to proceed in replacing your DC Power Jack, and need guidance, post back in a Comment.

Hi, what your toshiba laptop model and asus laptop model? You can use the asus ac adapter on your toshiba laptop only if the folllowing three conditions are met:
1) Output Voltage is within +/- 5% of your old charger's output.

For example, if your old charger provides 19V, then you can use a charger that provides 20.5V or 18.5V.

2) Output Current is the same or higher than that of your old charger.

For example, if your original adapter provides 3.42 Amps, then you can use a charger that provides 3.42 Amps, 3.9 Amps or higher.

3) Connector tip must fit securely into your laptop.

For the specifications of the two adapters, you may check it here:, then decide if it will work or not.

Sounds like the power receptor is broken off inside. If you plug in the charging cable on the back, and it's "wiggly", I would venture to say that you will have to get it re-soldered.

Soldering at a shop can cost as much as a used (working) motherboard.

Good luck.

This looks as if its a newer model laptop. If it's w/in a year old, I would contact tech support as it may be hardware issues or a loose connection. They should be able to take you through troubleshooting steps. Otherwise, they may have you send it in for repairs.

HP DV6915nr AC charger does not turn on or charge the battery.

You have a defective regulating circuit on the mother board that will not allow charging or a broken connector pin at power connection .
