Question about Legacy Audio LA470 Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

I have a Legacy LA470 300x2Channel amp. I'm running RCA cables with 4 gauge wires. It is staying in protect mode and not changing to power mode. I checked RCA cables, remote cable, power and ground. All of those r working fun. It will not change over.

Disconnect all speaker connections and rca cables. Leave power, ground and remote wires intact. Try turning on again. If you still have a protection light your amp is faulty. I would suspect if the amp is known to be good, that someplace you have a shorted speaker wire... possibly someplace the insulation is cut through or maybe you have a bad connection with frayed strands shorting out the speaker. Use an ohmmeter to check the resistance between each set of speaker leads and then to ground.

THE PROTECTION LIGHT COMES ON

make sure your ground is drilled threw thick metal and the paint is scraped off and make sure that all the wires connecting the amp are 4 gauge or higher and if that doesn't do the trick get a better amp that can throw more power

Lanzar amp 1000 watt stays on protect mode

Hello snow11879,

I haven't been able to locate any support information online about your product, other than the email contact for support questions:

support@lanzar.com

If the amp stays in protect mode all of the time, I would suspect a short in the speaker wiring or speaker(s) voice coil(s), or perhaps a faulty ground. If it plays for a short period of time and then goes into protect mode, it is most likely overheating. First check all of the wiring. Test your speakers on a known good amp and make sure there are no places in your wiring where the insulation may have been damaged, causing an intermittent problem.

Many owners have reported that this particular amp has a tendency to overheat. Also, when run in bridged mode, the speaker impedance needs to be at least 4 ohms. It will overheat if the impedance is below 4 ohms.

Hope this helps.

Legend Amp hook up manual.

Pretty Straight Forward get a 8 or 4 gauge amp wiring kit.

Run your hot wire to the +12V from the battery make sure to install the supplied inline fuse near the battery don't connect to the battery until installation is complete.

Run the REM to your stereo power ant. Wire. if available.

Run the GND to Metal Chassis Ground keep it as short as possible.

Run the RCA Cable from the back of the Stereo to the RCA Inputs or Low Level on the amp.

This amp is 2 Ohm Stereo Stable which means you can connect 2 (4 ohm) speakers in parallel to each channel or 1 (4 ohm) speaker on each channel or you can connect 1 (4 ohm) Speaker in bridged mode.

There are other speaker configurations you could use but you cannot drop the load below 2 Ohm in stereo mode and no lower than 4 ohm in bridged mode.

Hope this helps
