Question about Nikon S8100 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Hard reset of Nikon s8100? My menu button isn't working at all. The only one that is working is the round scene-selector button on top...and even that one stops working after I press the shutter button (which doesn't respond either). I've tried removing the battery for a few hours and replacing it, but that didn't help. Is there a way to remove the backup battery as well? Is there a button or a trick to doing a "hard reset" without having to use the menu??

The symptoms indicate your main battery is failing. Either is not charged or is failing to take a charge.

How do I turn flash on and off?

The multi selector is the round control on the rear of the camera with the OK button in its center.
The flash mode button is the top button on the selector, it has a lightning flash icon.

Press the flash mode button on the multi selector.
Highlight the desired mode and press the center of the multi selector.

The flash modes are:
AUTO; Flash fires automatically when lighting is poor.
AUTO WITH RED-EYE REDUCTION; Reduces "red eye" in portraits.
OFF; Flash will not fire even when lighting is poor.
FILL FLASH; Flash fires whenever picture is taken. Use to "fill-in" (illuminate) shadows and back-lit subjects.
SLOW SYNC; Flash illuminates mainsubject; slow shutter speeds are used to capture background at night or under dim light

The selected flash mode icon appears at the top of the monitor.

Every time i take a picture in low light or at night its blurry.

Set the Scene Mode for the appropriate Night landscape or Night protrait setting. If you are just taking in a view, then use Night landscape at nighttime (objects in the foreground could be out of focus in this mode). If you are photographing any number of people, animals, &/or objects at night, then use Night portrait (digital zoom would be unavailable in this mode).

In order to set the Scene Mode…
1. Enter scene mode: MODE in shooting mode --> SCENE (use the multi selector) --> OK.
2. Enter scene menu: MENU --> choose desired scene --> OK.
3. Frame the subject & shoot.

DON'T MOVE!! Nikon USA: "Slow shutter speeds are used to produce stunning night landscapes."
