Question about Apex Digital PF2020 20" TV

1 Answer

Sound goes out

First of all we have the TV connected to Direct TV. However, when we initially turn the TV on it comes on showing a picture with "no sound". With the remote for the TV, we have been pressing the "recall" button twice and the sound comes on. It may stay on anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour before it goes off again. And we repeat the process which is very annoying when you are trying to watch a movie. Please help!

ViewSonic 37" Wide (N3733W) TV Set that is connected to Direct TV has picture but no sound.

Based on your description, it is possible that the power supply is starting to go. Before doing anything, first check to see if it is the TV or the source. Use a few different sources to narrow down the problem. You didn't mention what type of hookup you used from the receiver to the TV. Assuming you are using HDMI, it is possible that the cable is intermittent. Try using a different one. Also try as below.
1. Once the TV is working with sound, what happens if you turn the TV off and then back on, is the sound still there?
2. Use the TV antenna input to see if you can replicate the problem using an antenna. If the problem is indeed the TV, it should do the same with the antenna.

Picture goes out, sound stays on

I am not familar with that particular set, but this is what I would check (assuming you don't have a surround sound system hooked up to it as it would sound like a tuner problem otherwise). If you have external Audio/Video jacks with cables hooked up to the Direct TV box, move the video cable and see if you lose video when it is jiggled. If so, you either have a bad cable or connection/connector. When you say you have to turn the TV off for about 30 minutes, do you leave the directTV box on? If so, then the problem seems to be with the TV. Otherwise, maybe the direct TV box is at fault -- leave the TV on and turn off the cable box for a half hour and try it again. You have a few possibilities here, good luck.
