It may be as simple as a broken or worn out on/off switch. If the switch shorts out, the camera will always be on or always be off. The problem could also be the switching circuitry. If you need service, you should call Nikon's Service Department at 1-800-NIKON-US (1-800-645-6687)9AM-8PM EST, Monday to Friday.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

I was snapping some pictures. When I switched to the "view picture" mode, the lens didn't retract and close up as it normally does.

Camera simply has a lens error. You have to have it service if that happens. The site that is really good for the Canon Powershots is www.camerasandparts.com All they service are the Powershots and they are amazing if you need help with these. Costs $79 total including the service for the camera and shipping back. The best deal since they service these perfectly. Good luck

Most cameras will not display images that were not taken on that camera (or at least a camera of the same brand). In addition, they will not display edited photographs. If you want to display edited photographs, you'll need to do it on the computer or a digital photo frame.

My camera view finder shows"Check

Good day,

The CHECK DIAG appears in the view finder when the camera's automatic self diagnostic function detects an abnormality.

From here you must first perform error checking on your camera by doing the following:

Press the menu dial.
This will perform the error check on the Digital Signal Processing(DSP) and the Memory Circuits.
When no error is detected OK will appear.
If an error is detected it will be displayed next to DSP or Memory on the screen. Diag Error will also appear.
If Diag Error appears contact your Sony dealer!

What this means is that the camera is doing a routine check or has detected an abnormality with the system.

I hope it is just performing a routine check and there is nothing wrong with your camera!

Best of luck and let me know if this was useful!

Kind regards
