The only realistic way to improve reception is with a better antenna. You can find a wide selection at sources such as eBay and

All depends on the actual reception in your area ! But Good Quality Radios pick up better / best reception than cheap Radios, If radio has attached aerial , make sure it's connected inside radio.

Basic trial & error. All the best.

My uniden solara dsc has poor reception, how can i find the service manual. am a radio technician.

We have a Uniden Oceanus DSC, which we bought as an upgrade for our MC-620. It has been my experience (20 years as a broadcast engineer) that reception issues are almost ALWAYS caused by the antenna. Antenna location is the easiest to fix, VHF being line-of-sight, HIGHER is better. We have our antenna on top of the mast (40' above the surface of the water). It has been my experience as well that Uniden products are very nearly bulletproof and RARELY need servicing. I'd concentrate mainly on checking your antenna installation.

Uniden will sell you a service manual, but they are indeed SPENDY. (Over $100US) Which is JUST about what your radio costs new.

Sorry I couldn't have been the bearer of better news.

How can i get my dx iv to recieve better by tunin

I am unaware of any dramatic improvement from tuning or germanium or schottky diode swaps in rigs that are the solutions in cobra 29 and galaxy radios.
You will see more promising result from a good quality antenna (wilson 2000 and coaxial cable 95% shielded. Then consider a preamp for improved RX however the nature of the AM band that cb radios operate on is overran with interference when you amplify the reception you also increase the noise and the filtering just is not there in these units.
The cobra 19 and uniden 510 such radios are very popular but cheaply made units you would be much happier with a Cobra 29 Chrome which is inexpensive but in my opinion has better reception than the cobra 29 ltd with the soundtracker gimmick.

The display only shows bars. Is my phone on the way out? It will be 5 yrs old in June. It is a 2.4 digital expandable system, model # DCT 6485.

sorry but i think it is time for you to get a new phone. Most phones these days are 5.8 or 6.0, which is much better than your 2.4. A new phone would mean better reception, more clarity, etc. They're always on sale at radioshack

Hope this helps! please rate how i did

Why can't i listen to aircraft pilots & tower on my Uniden bearcat BC60XLT-1? Our airband frequency here is 108-137 mhz.

Your scanner does not receive frequencies between 54 and 137 MHz, and there's nothing you can do to enable reception in that block. Your only option is to purchase a scanner with air band coverage. Here are the reception ranges of the BC-60XLT-1:

29.0-29.7 MHz 10 Meter Amateur Band
29.7-50 MHz VHF Low Band
50-54 MHz 6 Meter Amateur Band
137-144 MHz Military Land Mobile
144-148 MHz 2 Meter Amateur Band
148-174 MHz VHF High Band
Above bands in 5 kHz steps
406-420 MHz Federal Government
420-450 MHz 70 cm Amateur Band
450-470 MHz UHF Standard Band
470-512 MHz UHF "T" Band
Above bands in 12.5 kHz steps

Need the manual for your scanner? You can download and print it, at no cost, here:

When my scanner is on all I hear is static . I can hear pick up on it but inbetween it is all static

That's a hard one to answer without seeing the scanner and not knowing the location where you're operating it. Assuming that you've already adjusted to squelch to "mute" the scanner between transmissions, you might be in a weak signal area that requires something better than the back-of-set antenna that came with the scanner. Check eBay and other sources for inexpensive ($15-$30) indoor/outdoor antennas that are enclosed in PVC pipe. They can drastically improve reception.

Is there a way to scan the entire freq range on a uniden BC60xlt-1?

The BC60XLT does not have a global search feature. In fact, this simple scanner has no search feature of any kind. Reception is limited to 10 user-programmable frequencies and 7 factory-programmed NOAA weather frequencies. If you need a manual for your scanner you can download it here:
