Question about Pioneer PDP-4280HD 42 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

My Pioneer PDP 4280HD powers off after about thirty minutes (sometimes less) and then the blue power button blinks until I hit "power" again on the remote. What can I do? Is it an issue with my outlet?

I tried the fan behind the unit and it did not work, so I timed it and it is happening every 10-11 minutes. I I then looked at the manual you sent me and went into the "Factory Mode" and puled the temps. It seems high. Also, the Fan1 is saying Stop. Does this mean I need to replace it?

    Temp1: 104.9 (F)
    Temp2: 077.0(F)

    Fan1: Stop
    Fan2 ---

Looks like, it is a thermal shutdown issue. Try the following: Keep a fan and direct the air towards the bottom vent holes. Switch on the TV. Keep it on continuously for more than 2 hours and see if the TV shuts off again. If not, then it confirms Thermal shutdown. Check if you have kep any papers, cloth etc very close to TV. Keep the TV ventilated. Let there be air circulation. Here is the service manual for your set, it includes the trouble shooting guide and what the codes mean. There is a lot in here and these are not easy to come by, so look at it and you can decide if you have an issue that it covers or not. these things are not easy to diagnose over the web, but we do try. I just hate spending peoples money on repairs if I am not 100% shure of the issue.

This sounds like a heat issue because it comes back on, if it were a bad board they usually don't come back on when they fail.

Yes thats the reason it is over heating, your fan is not running. You can try to unplug the unit for several hours and see if a master reset will reset the fan, if not then it is bad.

I was thinking this set had 2 fans, but they are always changing. Anyway, if you decide you need a fan, check the parts supplier and see if there is a beefier fan available for that set. They should be able to match one with the old fan numbers.

By the way, download and keep that manual. Most people would sell their mothers for one of those!

I think your set up is correct. The only other thing you may have to do is to set the sound on your TV to 'External Speaker' (or something similar) from your TV's remote accessing the menu.

For the last 24 hrs, our 50 in plasma has had no picture,no sound, but yet a blue light blinks 12 times, pauses blinks 12 times, what does this mean

Pioneer has this to say about the issue:

"On the models listed below, Engineering has determined this to be part of the normal operation, if the unit will power on.
If the unit does not power on, service may be required on the set.
Please contact our Plasma support at 1-800-421-1625.""

My 60''pioneer plasma blinks 12 times after i turn it on

looks like 12 blue blinks is a communication with the Digital tuner error. pioneer had a software upgrade/fix for this in some cases, others might need a new digital tuner pcb. I would unplug all power, wait 5 min, plug in (wait1 min) and try it again. If it is software, it should hopefully work. Make sure you pull your cable card if you have one. If it still won't turn on, you probably need the digital tuner board = $200-500 repair. Pioneer is usually very helpful, I'm really surprised they didn't help at all.. They'll want model #, serial # and date of purchase.
