Lens jammed with sand

My Olympus FE-280 Digital Camera has sand jammed in between and around the lens. Every times I turn on the camera it makes weird noises and keeps trying to adjust itself for a few seconds then turns off. How do I fix it?

Will not focus

That fault is usuallly due to sand jamming the AF motor or impact mis-aligning the lens.

But - try doing a rest first - Hit Menu and then Reset on the camera.

If that does not work, you will need to dismantle the lens yourself or take it to a camera repairer, depending on if you want to DIY or not :)

LENS COVER STUCK ON CAMERA OLYMPUS FE 280

Hi there,

Well lens errors are very common in these digital cameras. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism.
Check the below link to do a try to correct it -

http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

If further you have the same problem it means there is a gear-motor alignment of the lens which moves in and out with the help of motor. This part is replaceable at an authorized Sanyo Service Center. Aprox repair cost is $120.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for using FixYa

Camera lens will not open, tries a couple of times, stops, tries 2 more, red light is on, then it turns off.

Some problem with the lens.
Was it impacted in any way or subjected to water exposure, sand or dirt?
Make sure the battery is up or new.

Same exact thing......My mom thinks it needs a new battery.

Hi!
It sounds like your camera lens focus is stuck - could be sand or something in the focus gears - that's the weak spot of these lens. If you can't open the lens and check your lens focus gears yourself, you should contact your local Olympus service center or other camera service center. You can contact me too at toms.safranovs@gmail.com and I can give you a good price.

Hope this helps!

FE-280 Lens Blurry Photos and no zoom turns off

You have a bad lens. Unless the camera is in warranty the cost of repairing the lens is higher than the value of your camera. The strange noise you hear is the lens motor trying to move the lens. One solution is to blow compressed air around the lens. Sometimes dust and dirt may jam the lens.

Fe-280

I have recently had the same problem. I sent my camera back to Olympus who very efficiently repaired it FOC and sent it back with an extended warranty. I gather this is a very common problem with this camera.
