Question about Panasonic VDR-D100 DVD Camcorder

1 Answer

Cannot finalize Hi there, I'm trying to put my first video clip on You Tube. The video looks fine one the recorder but when I put it onto my computer via windows media player there is no sound and it pauses from time to time. However, the main thing is that when I try t finalise on the DVD recorder it says cannot finalize (with no help) so I can't save it in a format I can save onto my computer. Any thoughts? My e-mail address is james.rose@your-move.co.uk if you can go to the trouble of replying. Many thanks in advance. regards, James Rose

i cant finalize the dvd in the camcorder despite deleting three segments from both sides.

  • ehawkeyes Sep 30, 2008

I have the same problem. Camcorder will not allow me to finalize the mini dvd disc in the player. This is the 3rd time this has happened. I shoot a full or nearly full mini dvd disc full of movies and then when I go to finalize the disc my camcorder tells me that I cannot finalize the disc.

I tried to delete a few scenes as one person suggested but the camcorder will not allow me to edit this disc, I receive the error message "cannot edit disc."

Since I cannot finalize the disc, I haven't been able to find a way to get my computer to read the minidisc unfinalized. I am looking for help to fix the finalization problem, or to refer me to a program that will read my unfinalized mini disc and allow me to capture/ rip/ copy or salvage the movie to my computer. Help. I think this may be a defect of the Panasonic VDR-D100. Help!

Just to clarify - when you say try to finalize the disc on the DVD recorder, do you mean the DVD camcorder i.e. the VDR D100? if not and you mean an actual DVD recorder then this is where your problem lies, as the disc can only be finalized in the VDR D100 unit itself. this could be the reason behind the poor quality when you watch the clip using windows media player.

If i've got the above wrong, and you were talking about finalization problems on the unit itself all along then the following might help: how full is the disc you are finalizing? if it is pretty full then delete one or two unwanted clips and try finalizing again (this worked for me when i had this problem).
if the disc is not really full then it gets trickier. let me know if it works

I have a pioneer recorder and i'm trying to turn vhs to dvd... it shows that it's burning and even looks like it on the dvd itself but it won't play anything. do i have it set up right?

You likely won't be able to simply plug the VCR into the DVD recorder and record the tape onto the DVD.DVD recorders require a digital input which was never put onto a VCR due to technology changes and availability when VCR's were made. You absolutely need some kind of software program to send it to your computer, then to a disc. The key is digital input. It simply isn't in a VCR.You cannot even record TV on a DVD recorder unless you have a cable box input or a DVD recorder with a digital tuner to change channels and record from.Unless it is something like home video, you are better off starting all over.If it is something like home video which you want to convert, there may be some certain companies which do it for $ obviously, but I haven't checked for any myself personally so I am not sure about that option. But I have found software at retail stores for perhaps up to $50 which will do that. Good luck,Greg

Using DVD-RW. How do I delete clips after finalizing, downloading to computer, then re-inserting the disk. I get message saying I cannot delete after finalizing

using this type of disc even in video or vr mode recording, it is not possible to delete the clips after finalization. unfinalizing the disc may not help.the delete option is possible only when you delete the last scene immediately from the camcorder.for reference see p.14 of the manual.so clips in between the first and last recording would not be possible to delete.an option would be to use your computer.select only the movie files that you would like to put on a disc and use your burning application for that purpose.at least you get to choose the clips you want and would have the capability of compiling it on a regular dvd disc.hope this helps.tnx:)

if you are using a -r disc finalize should appear in menus-if using -rw may not appear because rw's don't always have to be finalized to play in things beside camcorder- -r can not delete anything on them either they only record exactly as you are recording

Why won't the DVD play on my computer? Help, please?

Put it back in the recorder you made it with and make sure it is finalized. Also make sure your DVD drive in your computer is compatable with that format.

Transferring video files to a computer for further editing

First you have to make sure they are NOT recording in VR mode.
But i would say it sounds like they have not finalized the discs.
To get them onto your PC you would need to convert/cut them with something like total video converter. If you want to edit more than just cutting you would need another program for that.
