A common dust problem happens when refueling under dusty and windy conditions while cutting, sawdust gets into the tank and coats the fuel filter in there with a paper thin coating of sawdust. The saw now can't **** through that layer any more, so you have to choke to get even a little gas through. Take it apart, pull the filter off the line and blow it out from the line side and swish it in a can of gas to get it clear again. Now you will get lots of gas!

Poulan Pro Wild Thing will only run with choke out. Carb has been fully rebuilt and new lines added. As soon as throttle is pulled and choke pops off, engine dies. Any recommendations/suggestions? Thanks,...

If not already done replace the fuel filter in the tank, it is obviously fuel starvation, if no better increase the the fuel mixture on the H and L screws ( turn anti clockwise 1/4 turn on each to start with)

I replaced fuel and carb lines on my Poulan 2450 chain saw. I cannot seem to find the correct path/attachment for the throttle connection. Parts diagrams do not show this. Can someone provide a diagram...

It is quite difficult to explain exactly how it fits, the cable always looks too long and has to curl around on itself back to the trigger, the picture shows quite well how it goes, the end of the cable with a dog leg in it goes to the carb, as far as i remember it goes to the upper hole in the carb spindle, just push it into the hole and turn through 90%, the other end fits into the throttle trigger.adw1_9.jpg

The saw will start with the choke open, but when you close it, it goes dead. why?

I'm confused you said your saw will run with choke open, that is how it's supposed to run,or do you mean it will only run with choke closed?

My poulan will run but when I press the gas trigger, it shuts off

Sounds like it is running out of fuel supply. Pull the carb. out and part. If you disassemble one side at a time it is very simple. Spray out real well with gum cutter or carb and choke spray. Make sure the hole under the need valve located below the diaphram is clean and the needle is replaced the same way it came out.

Poulan WT usually starts Ok but after it is used for 8-10 minutes it cuts out when when trigger is released. Happens mostly when you're cutting & then release trigger when cut is done.

If the carb hasn't been rebuilt in a few years, often the fuel pump diaphram gets weak or the little flap check valves get deteriorated. Carb kits are about $20.

My poulan wild thing will start but will not stay running without holding the throttle. What should I do?

Get some sta-bil fuel stabilizer. add twice the amount recommended on the bottle for storage to your mixed gas. Empty out chainsaw tank and refill with the new mix. Rub for 2 minutes, then shut off. Remove cover over carb and spray inside carb, soaking it down good and cleaning all internal surfaces visible - allow to sit overnight.
Next day
Spray down carb with carb cleaner for about 15 seconds. Start saw, allowing 2 minutes to warm up and reduce choke. If saw stalls, restart and spray inside carb as it runs with choke on - keep motor at the highest rpms you can as you spray - spray in 2 second bursts, not allowing motor to stall from spray. If it stalls, change sparkplug and try again. You have varnish build up in the carb and are trying to remove it so the carb will work without the choke. This may take some time but it is the exact procedure I used for my Poulan Team Realtree last spring - I spent about an hour spraying and staring before it ran without the choke.
Good luck!!

I can get it to run, but I have to play with the choke to keep it running. The minute I hit the trigger it dies out.

Check the fuel filter and air cleaner for plugging. Check the condition of all of the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Check the spark at the plug--it should be blue and snappy (gapped 0.020"). Hope this helps!

Poulon Wildthing 18" Gas Chain Saw

Some Poulans vent thru a fuel line going from the tank to the carburetor. Some vent thru the cap but eventually the duck bill valve starts leaking fuel. Then I suspect some people change that cap to one without a vent, which causes the problem you are describing.
