Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My XP laptops cannot connect to my TEW-639GR router over wifi. I get the "Limited or No Connectivity Message". The same 2 XP laptops can connect if they are wired without problems. My Ubuntu computer can connect to wifi and wired without problem. "Limited or No Connectivity" usually means a DHCP problem in XP. I have DHCP turned on on my router. This problem did not immediately start when I first set up the TEW-639GR. It happened infrequently on my XP laptops initially for about 2 months but now it happens all the time. Thanks in advance.

There is not connectivity. It's configured to do DHCP on both the XP laptop(s) end and the router.

You can disable the notification so that it would either be on or off only and not a limited connection.

click on start > control panel > network connections
right click on the Local Area Connection > under the general tab, please uncheck the box that says "notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity" click on ok and then restart the computer.

After the restart, please check the network connection if is still says connected now or it is disconnected. We will check where we can proceed from there.

Hiding the notification does not allow the computer to connect to the internet...

The point is to be sure that it is either connected or disconnected so we can check if this is a connectivity problem or simple a configuration issue.

Limited connectivity
If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wireless connection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptop probably did not get an IP address from the wireless router.
To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and then click Repair.
This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless card on the laptop.

My wireless blue ray connection is down. i am getting a message to change my router setting. i am not sure how to change it. any suggestions?

It maybe because there is no Sync or communication / Signal too low coming from the router. Blue ray got disconnected from the network and now you must configure it in a way that it will be suitable with your Blue Ray. Check type of Security used (low level if possible) ; location and distance ( Channels to be changed if possible)

Loss of wireless connection

Is your laptop able to connect to other networks? If so, your router maybe at fault. Reset the router, if it still doesn't work, you may need a new router. If your laptop has issues connecting to other networks, the wifi radio in your laptop may need to be replaced.
