Trying to remove graphics card from pci-express slot on ecs gf8100vm-m3 motherboard. How does the clip on the end work? It holds the card in and I cannot figure out how it releases.

You should be able to push down on the release clip/latch(similar to Memory ram sticks). Trying reaching under and pushing down while pulling up on the graphic card.

The Motherboard is considered the 'Building Block' of the computer.

From it all hardware components are supported.

Processor, Ram Memory, Harddrive, Optical Drive/s, and add-on expansion slot cards.

A graphics card (Video Card) being one.

You need a graphics card that the ECS 945GCT-HM,
or also stated as HP's Livermore8-GL6; will support.

Will the ECS 945GCT-HM support graphics cards based on the PCI Express 2.0 technology?

YES!

PCI Express 2.0 technology IS backward compatible, with PCI Express 1.1 technology.

You just won't get the full capability of the PCI Express graphics card; based on the PCI Express 2.0 technology.

Will you notice? Doubtful.

From what I have seen listed in reviews on the graphics card, I would not suggest a graphics card based on the PCI Express 2.1 technology.
Reviews suggest it doesn't 'play well' with a motherboard using the PCI Express 1.1 technology.

There is another thing to consider; Power Supply

Most decent graphics cards require a minimum Power Supply wattage, of 400 to 450 Watts.

This Power Supply requirement isn't just for the graphics card.
Graphics card manufacturers base it on a test computer system.
One they put together with a powerful Processor, high performance motherboard, 2GB's of Ram Memory (At least), optical drive/s, harddrive, and the graphics card. (Plus allowance for computer case fans, etc)

If you're running a 300 Watt power supply, this = No.

(Yes, even though AMD ATI Radeon graphics cards, are touted to use less power; 400 to 450 Watts is still the limit for a decent graphics card, from them. Unless you want to run a simpy PCI expansion slot graphics card, or budget/starter, PCI Express graphics card)

The Northbridge chip of the motherboard chipset, handles the Faster capabilities of a computer.
Processor (CPU), Ram Memory, and HIGH-speed graphics.

AGP technology, and PCI Express technology, ARE HIGH-speed graphics.

Using a PCI slot for a graphics card, or using Integrated Graphics; is NOT high speed graphics.

Your motherboard, IMHO, uses the PCI Express 1.1 technology.
This is why I recommend a graphics card based on the PCI Express 2.0 technology. (For one)

PCI Express 2.0 is Backward Compatible, with PCI Express 1.1
A little iffy if it's PCI Express 1.0

I have seen a lot of problems crop up with users trying to use a graphics card, based on the PCI Express 2.1 technology; on a motherboard based on the PCI Express 2.1 technology.

That's why I recommended PCI Express 2.0

PCI Express 3.0 is supposed to overcome that, (Use on a mobo with PCI-E 1.1), but I have no real world knowledge, (Hands on), and no input from the 'outside'. (Internet/world)

5) You need at least a 400 Watt power supply. Don't have at least a 400 Watt? Time to move up.

Let's read together,

What isn't stated in that paragraph, is one graphics card will be supported at 16x, with the other being supported at 4x.

The Orange PCI-Express x16 slot supports a graphics card at the 16x bandwidth. (Hmmm, looks Red to me)

The Blue PCI-Express x16 slot supports a graphics card at the 4x bandwidth.

Was just bringing up the point, that the mobo will support OnBoard, or Integrated graphics, AND also one of those PCI-Express x16 slots.

"Surround Display"

Means BIOS will allocate an Interrupt Request for the OnBoard (Integrated) graphics, and also allocate an IRQ for the PCI-Express x16 graphics card, for using BOTH at the SAME TIME.

Never have seen this before. Must lead a sheltered life! Lol!
No big deal, however. Two graphics cards are much better.

IF, your Power Supply does NOT have two 6-pin PCI Express power cables, AND you use an adapter power cable, that uses two 4-pin Peripheral power cables, MAKE SURE you use TWO -> 4-pin Peripheral power cables! <-

If not you will burn up the power cable's connector.
You will burn up the power cable connector on the graphics card.
You will burn the PCI Express x16 slot the graphics card is sitting in.

May not happen right away, but I Assure you it Will happen!

AS it GEFORCE 440 requires (pci express) PCI-E 2.0 x 16 and your motherboard has 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, so you just need to check your motherboards manual if motherboards pci express is x16 2.0 if so, you can go for a upgrade and run. as I found itcan run nvidia geforce 8 or 9 on fixya.

That really depends on several things.

1. What is your power supply make & model? How many watts does it put out? What size power supply is recommended for the video card I want?

2. How big is your case? Do you have a lot of add-on cards already in the case? Will the ram slots get in the way of your PCI Express x16 slot?

3. How good id your cooling system inside your case? Does it have enough fans?

4. What slots can you use for graphics cards?

In your case you have :
1 x PCI Express x16 slot
1 x PCI Express x1 slot
2 x PCI slots

1) Will support a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot. This means a PCI-Express graphics card can be used, IF, there is a PCI-Express x16 slot on the motherboard.

[ PCI-Express is a technology. The current PCI-Express technology is PCI-Express 2.0

There is a PCI-Express x1 expansion slot, and a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot. (Not relating to Your computer at the moment)

The PCI-Express x1 slot is Not used for a graphics card.

Now,...you are essentially working on a laptop with a touchscreen.
Once you remove the 10 screws from the Back Cover, and remove the cover, you are looking at the exposed circuitry of the computer.

You NEED to follow Anti-Static Precautions. This cannot be performed as on a regular desktop computer. Touching the metal frame (Of the unplugged from power computer) will do you No good.

You need to use an ESD wrist strap, and connect it's alligator clip to a good ground source. [ Electro Static Discharge]

Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate hardware components inside a computer.

With the Back Cover off the manufacturer knows all of the hardware components are exposed. This means the person working on the computer should be aware of Static issues, and use proper tools.

The average consumer is not aware of this. This is why only a ram memory upgrade is recommended by the manufacturer. (Before they went out of business)

This is why there are no service manuals released, also.
Only for the qualified authorized service techs.

So,...let's look together. See if there is a PCI-Express x16 slot, for one.
It can be any color. Will be longer than any other expansion slot on the motherboard. The PCI slots (Usually white) are not as long.
(164 contact pins. 82 on each side)

These examples of a PCI slot, and versions of a PCI-Express slot, are all the same color. (Yellow) Not usual for a desktop computer.

The top example is an example of a PCI-Express x4 slot.
Hardly EVER used, I didn't mention it.
Has 64 contact pins. 32 on each side.

The next slot down is an example of a PCI-Express x16 slot.
164 contact pins. 82 on each side.

Next down is an example of a PCI-Express x1 slot.
36 contact pins. 18 on each side.

Next down is another example of a PCI-Express x16 slot.

Last example is an example of a PCI slot. TOTALLY different technology than PCI-Express.
124 contact pins. 62 on each side. (Unless PCI that is 64-bit)

IF, there is a PCI-Express x16 slot on the motherboard, you can use PCI-Express 1.1 or 2.0 graphics cards.

You need to be concerned with;

A) How much height is available for the graphics card, and how much length? Check the measurements inside the computer. Match to dimensions of the graphics cards you are looking at.

B) How much POWER does the graphics card require? It's in the Minimum Requirements stated for the graphics card.
How much power is available to the all-in-one computer?

This could be an instant stopping block.

AMD ATI Radeon graphics cards generally use less power, than a comparable Nvidia graphics card.

C) Worried about your computer per se uses DDR Sdram ram memory, and the graphics card uses GDDR3 ram memory? (Just an example. Not directly related to Your computer)

Don't be. Doesn't matter what graphics memory a graphics card uses.

The graphics card does Not rely on the system resources (Processor and Ram Memory) of the computer.
A graphics card has it's own Processor, (GPU. Graphics Processing Unit), and graphics ram memory.

Loss of graphic signal


If there is a problem with the internals graphics "card", that may cause an externally installed card not to perform. In the BIOS of some machines there is an entry under the peripherals that states something along the lines of "Initiate graphics first", then allows you to select ONBOARD or PCI. If you have this, try setting it to PCI and checking again with the card in the express slot.

It looks like your trying to install a PCI Graphics Adapter. If that is the case, I would try the PCI Graphics Adapter any Slot other than Slot 1 or Slot 2. That is unless, your PCI Graphics Adapter Card is a PCI Express, then that must be installed in Slot 1, if the Board supports it. If the PCI Graphics Adapter is a PCI-I Card then it must be installed in Slot 2.

Check AMD's site, they have or already implemented standards on their support chips. The standard, as I understand it, is Slot 1 - PCI Express, Slot 2 - PCI-I, if you're using those Slot for PCI Graphics Adapter.

It should be possible to use those Slots (1 & 2) for any PCI Cards that is not a PCI Graphics Adapter, be careful, I have not checked that out. Those do not handshake as Video Adapter, so the PCI card should not be thrown or overdriven, the PCI-Express and PCI-I, to my knowledge is only for Grahpics Adapters, should that be different, then Slot 1 for only PCI Express Cards and Slot 2 for only PCI-I Cards.

Me, for now, Slot 1 for Express, Slot 2 for PCI-I, and the rest of the Slot for all else. If your PCI Graphics Adapter is not an Express or PCI-I, install in any Slot other than Slot 1 or Slot 2.
