Question about Kenwood KDC-MP528 CD Player

2 Answers

I bought a used car. It had a Kenwood KDC-MP528 deck in it w/ no faceplate. The dealer ordered me my faceplate that took about 80 years to arrive only to find out that after putting the faceplate on that it asks for a Code. I don't know the code. I dont know who got them the car. But I do need this unlocked or I'll be forced to send the entire unit to Virginia and got knows how long it'll take to get back. And I don't have a remote. And I have dealt with Kenwood's tech department if you want to call them that. More like a here's a way to get screwed on shipping dept. for something that isn't your fault.

The dealer didn't even know the faceplate wasn't there. they don't know jack. I am going to see if they can find the previous owner, but i seriously doubt it. However, it is a 2001 Civic LX

Most people will use an easy to remember and easy to enter, and therefore easy to guess password on these units.

And just in case you need it, here's the complete operations manual for the unit.http://www.kenwoodusa.com/UserFiles/File...

Contact the dealer that sold you the stereo and ask them to give you the code. it is likely they will need more information on the stereo itself, tho as they sold it to you they should have the serial number in their records. i do have some decoders but nothing for kenwoods although the brand of car would be helpful if the dealer won't help.

How do I unlock my Kenwood KDC-MP528 car stereo

To reset the code do the following:
1) Turn on the car.2) The faceplate rotates out and the CODE - - - - prompt appears.3) Press >>' and Auto keys simultaneously on the faceplate and hold for 4 seconds. (If the faceplate rotates back into the console push on the upper left top edge of the faceplate and it will flip back around. Press the Eject button and then try it again.)4) The screen will still say CODE, but the - - - - will disappear! When this happens press the 5 key on the remote twice and it enters a K on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.5) Press the 2 key on the remote three times and it enters a C on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.6) Press the 2 key on the remote once and it enters an A on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.7) Press the 7 key on the remote twice and it enters an R on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.8) The radio goes into All Off mode and you are set! Hit the SRC button on the faceplate to select CD, Radio, etc.

Face wont open

if you have already tried hitting the reset button you should first remove the faceplate and check the contacts on the main unit and the back of the faceplate. if they are dirty clean them (with power off) with contact cleaner or a small eraser. if your lucky that will fix the problem but most likely you have a bad ribbon cable. this cable attaches the faceplate contacts to the main unit and flexes as the face tilts. after time these cables get small cracks that may not be visible. you can usualy buy the part from a place like pacparts.com and replace it to solve your problem.

Kenwood kdc-mp528 amp/speaker problem???

This is a common mistake. This problem indicates that you are using the solid blue wire from the head unit to the remote turn-on on the amp. This is a power antenna wire that only receives power when on FM radio. You need to replace this with the Blue & White wire from the head unit (power control wire) to your remote turn-on on your amp. This should solve your issue.
