Question about Samsung 50 in. Plasma TV

3 Answers

I have a samsung pn50a650t1fxza plasma tv. i have blue, green, and black lines running vertically down the right hand side of the screen. saw on another post that it could be the lower buffer board?? if this is true can i get a part number? i replaced a bad capacitor on the y main already. and the y main is buzzing a little louder than what it should be, even before replacing the bad capicitor. all the other boards look fine. any help would be greatly appricated. thanks.

Picture is perfect other than the lines, dosent go out and audio is fine as well

  • austin r Mar 26, 2011

Black lines are about 2in, grn and blue lines are thinner. Plus there is a slight hint of plasma burn when u white out the burn protection. What is the pdp panel #? Thx

  • austin r Apr 01, 2011

Replaced buffer boards, still have lines about 2in in width, looks like the tape carrier pkgs may have shorted out. Would that cause the lines? Any way to replace those? What is the white paste under the tape carrier pkgs? Thermal paste?

  • austin r Apr 01, 2011

i replaced the two buffer boards, still have same problem. when i removed the old buffer boards, i noticed that the tcp(tape carrier packages) may have shorted out because of the lack of white goo under the strips going to the pdp panel. what is the white goo? thermal paste? still have 2in lines on tv after board switch. could the shorted tcp packages be the cause or is the whole pdp panel shot? can the tcp pkgs be replaced? sorry so many questions, just trying to figure out what happened. thanks

Have you lookes at this site. if it is not board related it can save you some money. This has helped many people who thought thier sets were broken.
www.jscreenfix.com/video.php . You can burn these and save them on dvd as well.
Well by reading your post I see you already understand the issues with the bad capacitors in these sets. well you may have more. The lower buffer board can cause this issue,
Part numbers as follows.
PART TYPE - E-Buffer Board
Assy Pdp P-e Main Buffer
PART NUMBER - BN96-08756A
BOARD NUMBER - LJ92-01532A
PCB NUMBER - LJ41-05517A
I am posting a link to these parts for you to compare with ones you take out. Also if I were you I would replace both X and Y sustainers. if you fix or replace one the other one soon follows, especiall if it starting to buzz on you.

Are you speaking of the ribbon connectors that connect the boards? Yes they should be replaced with the boards. The paste must be an electrical grease that has hardened over time with heat. I am starting to wonder if the panel on this set has not gone bad. I am going to start looking through some old repair logs and see what else we can do. This is the aggrivating part of this job, when these companies sell this stuff with full knowledge they won't last and they don't like to support people who repair them.

As you probably know, the TCP (tape carrier package) IC. These are responsible in transmitting color information to the display panel from the X-Drive (A-Bus) Board. the white goo your refering too must be either corrosion or the bonding material for the chips and the tcp. I am not familiar with seeing this in the past. The plasma display screen is made of a matrix of elements connected to cables along the side and top. On your unit, some of these many, tiny connections are making contact intermittantly thus losing the elements in that area. These contacts are held in place with just pressure and if that is disturbed, you lose that line of elements. Since you have it open, try pressing on these connections in the area of the lines, there may just be a bad connection, if not then the TCP could be the main issue from the start. There have also been issues with the solder on the fuse connections on the back of the driver boards, if this is the case, just a little solder will fix the issue.
I will include some reading on this issue as there have been problems along the same line as yours in the past. Most seem to come from these TCp's and display panels. I am also going to include a place that rebuilds them for a very reasonable price. In my inxperiance on Plazma's. they a re great, ,love the picture, but when they start heading south the don't seem to want to stop. These can be repaired like new but how long the repairs last is anyone guess. If it were me, I would rather spend my money on a new replacement rather than throwing it at an outdated system. Plazma's are on the way out and will soon be hard to find. The new LED, LCD's are much better than their predecessors and getting better and cheaper every day.
    www.fps-europe.com/repair.html
Display Assembly" can be sent tp PTS, Indiana and rebuilt for $87.
Andrews Electronics sells it for $267. + s&h. These prices are not an accurate price as I have not dealt with them for a while but they can give you a quote is you chose to go this route.

The part number you are looking for is BN96-08757A and BN96-08756A, usually with plasmas if the lines rare less then 2 inches in with this is not an indication of a bad buffer board but PDP panel. If the lines are at least 2 inches in with then you very well have a bad buffer board.

The PDP panel is a very expensive part, but for FYI the part number is BN96-14592A

If the lines are two inches wide then you problem resides in the buffers.

If the screen works for a short while and then completely fails once the TV warms up you have a problem with the main unit video board or the LCD control logic board. Most often if the picture cuts out but audio continues to work the logic board is over heating and should be replaced. However if the picture cuts out and audio shuts off as well then its your video input board.

Vertical lines across my entire screen

My 42" Samsung Plasma HDTV HP-R4252 has a 2" vertical strip of green pixels down the right side of the screen.

My 3 year warranty with Circuit City expires in Nov 2008.. so I hope I'm covered.. can't call until the morning.

Samsung said it might be a logic board problem.. but they want almost $2000 to fix. I might as well buy another TV if Circuit City can't fix it.
