I have a Elura 70. I cannot get the camera to turn on. I have replaced the battery and had the power cord checked out and it was ok. but the camera has no power at all. I have a tape in it and there is no way to get it out either.

Is this a expensive repair? What sort of range price wise should I look for? Is there a way to get the tape out if it becomes to expensive? Thanks

is there a way to get the video tape out without fixing the whole camera? What should I be looking for as far as an estimate? What 's a good price? Is the camera worth fixing?

Now that it is confirmed that the battery is good and charged and that the adapter also has power to the camera , it needs to be confirmed the loss of power in the power supply section of the camera. You will need to open the camera to have access to the power supply section , open the screws at the battery terminals and the side covers to open the back and sides so that the power supply section which is near to the battery pack side is seen. Look for the fuse or any fusible links that have opened up. If the fuse blows there is a short in the circuit and needs a close check up.
You will need good technical experience if the boards are to be checked as there are delicate connectors and flexible strip wires that must be handled with care. Also the access to the inner board is possible only with the removal of the boards. If the power supply works but there is no switch on , check the main processor for the trigger commands from the power switch. also check the Oscillation of the processor which if absent might require a new board when you need to confirm and estimate the cost.

Unless the tape is entangled you can easily remove the covers of the tape door and slide the door to come away. Now the lock of the eject can be pushed aside to release the cassette.
If not the player must be dismantled before your cassette can be removed.
You can best get this to a service center and ask for estimation because they will need to open up to give an estimation and in the process the cassette can be released.
Decide on a new set with added feature if the old one can be given a face value as scrap..

Hi, these cameras fault in the area of the power conditioning circuitry in the Power Supply of the camera unfortunately. Usually a resistor diode combination fault, and this causes the camera to detect a "Fault" and shut down.

There is little else one can do other than, take it to a Canon camera repair center and get it repaired.

If you are concerned about costings, then please ask for a "Quote" before allowing any actual repair work to be undertaken.

Windows Vista doesn't recognize camera

well, first, u should check what format of the video file from your cannon. In my opinion, it may be mod format, and vista and lots of players will not support mod. u should try to convert mod to some regular format .

My cannon elura 70 got wet and now it will not power up or eject the tape even after it appears dry. Anything simple I can do before I bring it in to have it checked out?

Since the post date appears to be 7/16/2009, I would open it in a dry place and blow dry air over it to ensure it is completely dry. If the camera was very clean before it got soaked, it may recover. If it was dusty or had been in "bad" environment, the water might have carried crud into the camera mechanizm or into the electronics.

Try to dry and then report back!

Canon Elura 60 won't power up

The same thing happened to mine soon after I got it. Turned out the plug I was using to plug it into the wall to charge had gone bad. The replacement was over $100 so I went with a (cheaper) wall battery charger that you conect the battery to.

Your Canon Elura 70

Thanks Benimur. The first posted solution worked like a charm. I banged the bottom of the camera hard on a book 3 times (what did I have to loose?) and not only did it begin recording properly, but the things I recorded on the faulty setting played fine as well. Weird stuff, really............

I have one of these too and unfortunately they have many bugs. Every time I have a problem with my camera I just have to bang on it a little bit or wait out the problem. I have read too many forum entries with people saying they have sent it back and not received proper help. I just wanted you to know you're not the only one out there! Good luck.

Get eject tape message

I had this problem this weekend with an Elura 65, where the camera would not accept a tape. If you inserted a tape, it would beep a few times, the LCD screen would flash "REMOVE CASSETTE TAPE" and then it would spit the tape out. I had the camcorder stored in a ziplock bag in a cool / dry cabinet in our spare bedroom. None of the previous solutions worked for me (clean the heads, take out the batteries, remove power for 20 minutes, remove the memory card, etc).

What worked for me:
I left the main battery in, installed the small memory battery, installed the SD memory card and plugged in the power cord. I left the camera out (close to my computer), which is upstairs in my house- in a 70-75 degree Farenheight environment - for 24hrs. After 24hrs of sitting out and being plugged in to power, I suspect everything came to an ambient temperature and the camera worked fine. (you might try up to 48hrs of being warm)

I suspect that most people's cameras are having this trouble when the internal parts of the camera are not all warmed up so the camera will reject a tape because something is NOT functioning properly when cold.

If you look at the timing of these postings, you will see that most people are posting issues in the cold winter months. I won't buy another Canon Camcorder, but am appeased at it coming back to life long enough for me to download my information to my computer.

If you call the service support for Canon (which I did), they will ask you for your serial number, model, date of purchase, name, email address & mailing address. They will ask you to mial your camera along with the printed information above and detail your problem. It will take 7-10 business days for someone to contact you via email or phone.

Good luck with your camcorders!

Tape Ejection Problem

I have both the willful zoom and the unwilling cassette problems. In the past I have briefly fixed the zoom by opening the door and gently probing the cable to the zoom button. This only worked for a couple of weeks then reverted to same crazed performance. Then last month the "remove the cassette" madness started (bear in mind, I have only recorded perhaps 15 cassettes on this damn thing). Nothing worked. Until tonight when I simply lightly smacked the unit down flat on the manual resting on my desktop. Did this a few times and BOTH the zoom and cassette door started responding properly. I'll see how long this lasts, but it beats buying a new one or dealing with Canon. Never again.
