Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

Duo-Therm Sunchaser XL

Have the above rooftop ac. RUns great for about 3 mins then slowly bogs down and finally shuts down. The blower will come back on shortly after the compressor shuts down. It will then try to restart after a few minutes but fails.

I am going to take a guess and say this might be due to lack of voltage from the main breaker we are getting power from. Reason I say this is that even the smaller fans we use in the 5th wheel slow down when the ac is trying to start.

We are on a 30 am breaker with about 70' of underground 10 guage wire from the breaker box to the trailer.

I am going to going to guess that if I shorten the run and run 8 or 6 guage wire I would eliminate my issue.

I may have answered my own question but confirmation would be great from some experts.

Thanks in advanced

I also have the problem with our a/c running fine for a while then the compressor stops (with a shudder) but blower continues to run as if it just kicked into hight gear. After a few seconds the fan also stops - then a few minutes later it cycles on again.
    1) We do not have any problems with the voltage whatsoever - I feel it is something else.
    2) Dometic repairman said it is not a problem with the temp sensor.

    What is it then?

Kinda of late for the OP but still relevant to ALL AC systems.

If the external blower motor is failing and not providing proper airflow to the condenser, the Freon will "ice" up and overload the compressor which stalls, overheats and trips the thermal breaker. This will leave the internal blower running until such time the thermal breaker rests and the process starts over.

IF the external fan and internal blower share a common motor, the failure will be more noticeable as the blower starts failing.

Do you have the right voltage going to the RTU .You should double check voltage and amp draw on compressor.
Breaker and wire should be fine .Also make sure everything is wire according to the correct phase

Your wire size and breaker is correct and should be fine as long as all connections are tight and plug and receptacles are OK. Does any part of the wire get warm? Check the temperature of the plug (plugs/sockets) and cable at each end.

Duo Therm dripping water in camper when shut off. My Dometic Duo Therm Ducted AC drips quite a bit of water when shut off after running for several hours on hot humid days. The condensate lines are open....

Remove the filter at ceiling and run the AC on cool etc, and see if you can feel cool air leaking across to return air inlet where the divider between cold and return is. Check along all edges, etc for any cool air . Careful of wiring, but you should be able to get hand in there and feel especially around the edges where it should be sealed tight. Quite often a leak in that area causes cold air to enter return air and causes excessive condensation. Another thing to check is look way up inside opening for return air, with a flashlight and see if any dirt/dust on coils and fins of evaporator, and if so, needs to be cleaned off with a vacuum, and brush attachment. Let me know what you find.

How do I install a blower motor in a duo therm model 57915.622? What tools will I need?

ITS NOT EASY. YOU NEED A LONG SET OF ALLENS TO LOOSEN BLOWER WHEELS. THIS IS A  DUEL SHAFT MOTOR , BACK COIL NEEDS TO BE PULLED AWAY FROM MOUNT WITHOUT BENDING COPPER. MOTOR BOLTS 3 OF THEM HAVE TO BE REMOVED AND WHEN BOTH BLOWERS ARE REMOVED AND WIRES REMOVED THEN IT CAN BE REMOVED . THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE NEW MOTOR IF IT IS NOT FROM DUO THERM YOU WILL HAVE TO CUT SHAFT TO RIGHT SIZE AND WIRES MAY NOT BE SAME COLOR. IF IT IS SAME MOTOR FROM DUO THERM YOU CAN CUT WIRES AT OLD MOTOR AND WIRE NUT THEM COLOR BY COLOR.

Duo Therm AC not working

If unit was freezing up the air flow would normally stop, until the unit is turned off and allowed to thaw. I suspect evaporator blower may have a worn out belt, or compressor is shutting off due to control or internal overheat. What is the age of the unit?

Penguin Duo therm AC bogs

Try replacing the wall thermostat with an electronic unit. It sounds like it is short cycling. If there is not at least 5 min delay before trying to restart the compressor this is what happens. Most electronic thermostats have a delay feature built in to solve this problem.
