Hello, Is this amplifier new to you or new out of the box? To make sure there are no other factors involved here. Assuming this is new out of the box we will check some things. Protection mode is to do just that, protect your amp for blowing.

  1. First thing is to check the on board fuse on the amp itself. Make sure it is not blown.
  2. Next thing you want to check is your ground wire and connection. Make sure this is solidly connected to the frame of your vehicle. Don't bolt the wire down with frayed wires either. Use a ring style connector and clamp it on good to your wire and then run your bolt through this.
  3. The next this you want to do is recheck all your connections especially the power wire and ground wire and remote wires where you attached them on the amplifier. It is tight quarters there and it only takes one little stray strand of a wire to short your amplifier out and send it into protection mode.
  4. Make sure the Ohms of the amp is the same as the Ohms of the speakers. If you are "bridging" the speakers this can be an issue for some amps.
  5. After this point and checking all of this remove the power source and try it again. If protection mode occurs again, with the speakers disconnected, you will need to diagnose the RCA shields of the head unit and the board itself. The steps I listed are simple checks that would be the fault of the one hooking this amp up. If your amp continues to go into protection mode, being new out of the box, then at this point, this is a manufacturer defect and it should be returned for a new one.
Regards, Tony

My jvc ks-ax4302 goes straight to protection when I turn it on, just curious what could be the cause and where could I find a schematic of the mother board?

If the Power/Protect LED is red, usually the speaker wiring has a short-circuit or the speaker total impedance is wrong for the system. The most common issue is a bare spot on a speaker wire that is coming in contact with part of the car or another bare wire. Sometimes, it just means that the system got too hot.

Before you look for a problem with the KS-AX4302 board, look at your wiring and replace any damaged wires.

I hope this helps.

My amp going into protection

This is caused by only a few things, shorted speaker wiring, shorted speaker voice coil or shorted output circuit in the amp, which is usually one of the large power transistors. Disconnect all the speakers and see if the protect comes on, if not you have a problem in the speaker circuit.

When i turn on the power it reads protected and turns off on its on

try unplugging the speakers and then turning it on...if the protect goes away then you have a bad speaker or wiring...if it still displays the same message then the amplifier output may be blown and will need to get it repaired at a shop

My jvc ax6300 amp is wired in and the protection light is on. no sound from the subs?

Try to rest amp (turn off power) be sure subs are disconnected. Se if protection light comes on. If it does the amp needs to be serviced porbably a burnt component. If the protection light does not come on, connect one sub at a time to see if either one surges. Could also be that the gain is turned up too much.

New System Just out of the Box and the very first time I turn it on it checks for all the DVD's and then "Protector Puch power" Message. I check all the wires and Not sure how to do test tone as every time...

Straight to power protect mode indicates crossed wires somewhere or otherwise miswired system. Disconnect all the speakers and try to power on to see if it still goes into protect mode.

If it does, read the manual for troubleshooting tips, or return the unit as defective.

If it does not then replace the speakers one by one until it returns. Check the wires going into that speaker, that speaker may be defective or you may be wiring it wrong.

When I turn the volume up even a little bit, the protect light comes on and stays on

Hiya,

Try disconnecting the speaker cables, then turn it up and see if it protects. If not, then connect one speaker at a time (on very low volume otherwise could pop the amp) and see if you can identify a faulty speaker/channel. Then try a known working speaker on the amp channel that is giving problems (to eliminate a fault with the amp). If the known working speaker also trips the amp, then it is that channel faulty. Hopefully you get away with a bad speaker wire though!!

Best of luck

Hi,
Power cord that goes to fuse box to provide power to unit. Yellow to 14V DC and black to Ground / car body.
J-Bus connector goes to receiver to amplify sound that goes to speakers.

Hit "add a comment" for further query / info.
Thanks.
