Hi, sounds as though you have a clogged hose somewhere which in turn makes the motor get hot.
Try running a wire up through there and see if there may be a piece of something stuck crosswise, that happened to my vacuum..
I would recommend running a broom handle through the hoses if you're going to search for clogs in the line. A wire hanger could rip the hose.

Hose has almost no suction but system is on

First check the hose for being plugged. Check the filters. One behind the dirt bag. They do get plugged. Also make sure you have the proper dirt bag that's made for that make. I had one come in and no suction and they had installed a new dirt bag but it was not made for that machine and it went over the area where it is suppose to suck air. They said well we went to the store and bought a Kenmore bag but what they did not realize there are several Kenmore models and they all take different size bags.

Hey Julie,

Hopefully we will get this solved together.

To me, this problem sounds like either the filters are choked up and cannot breathe, OR.... the bagless cannister is not quite sitting in the machine properly.
Honestly, I am more leaning towards the cannister not quite in properly, that is assuming that everything is out of the suction hose.

Start with the process of elimination. Remove and clean the filters with a paint brush or other brush. Get as much dirt and debris off of them as you can and replace them into the machine.
Turn on the machine, and using only the hose attachment, feel if the suction is there. If not, try a re-alignment of the cannister and check the hose. a small coin or marble running through the hose will tell you if there is still a blockage in there.
Where the attachment hose connects to the bottom of the machine could also be blocked up as well. This will also give the same effect of the dirt blowing out the bottom of the machine.

Lastly, it is also quite possible that the belt has stretched or worn out. This too will contribute to it not picking up.
Let me know if this helps, and we will go from there.
Good luck,
Mark

My 4 yr old Nilfisk vacuum cleaner has been working fine up until now. But suddenly, it has hardly any suction power and also, hot air seems to be coming out thru the vents on top and also thru the space...

Hi there SmartAlec from Nelsonvacuums.com.au here.It sounds like a blockage of some kind. The best way to find it is to set the machine up for normal vacuuming and remove one component at a time until the suction returns. eg turn on and feel suction under floor head - not good? then remove the rod, then the hose.
Once at the machine on its own it gets a little triky as i don't know which model you have. However if you have a bagged model remove all the filters and the bag and retest. There will be at least 2 filters, one before the motor and one after (maybe under the vacuum or right at the back). If it is a bagless model even though the filter may look clean it is probably blocked with very fine dust. If suction returns when the filter is removed then you need to buy a new filter. I am a nilfisk vacuum cleaner agent so i can supply a filter for you.
If this still doesnt help you are welcome to call me if you live in australia my contact details are on my website www.nelsonvacuums.com.au.
Hope this helps !.
Happy vacuuming :)

Our vacuum bag was full and we keep on vacuuming. I believe some lent and hair got sucked into the vacuum motor. We've changed the bag and filters. Now the motor makes a loud noise especially when shutting...

Get a professional repairer to examine it. Even with an over-full bag, dirt will not have got in to the motor if the pre-motor filter was correctly positioned and in good condition. However, the motor may have been damaged through lack of air flow and consequent over-heating. Your machine may well need a new motor, and that's a job you won't be able to do for yourself.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I value your feedback, so please remember to rate this response. Good luck!

VACCUM KEEPS SWITCHING OFF /NOT SUCKING

First thing would be to check the bag as it may be full. If the bag is full the machine will overheat quickly. Also check the internal filter in the bag cavity to make sure that isn't dirty.

Next, check there's no blockage in your floor tool or in your telescopic rods.

As for the hose: grab a marble and see if that will go all of the way through the hose. Marble goes through = no (big) blockage. Marble won't go through = blockage.

There possibly could be a blockage in the bend/handle. Grab a bendy coat hanger and undo it, make a small hook on the end, and use it to stick up into the handle to check for a blockage.

To check from the other end get a broom handle and stick that in at the machine end of the hose. If you find a blockage, get the coat hanger, stick it in, and rotate it gently around and hopefully hook whatever the blockage is with the hook on the end.

Shop Vac not working well

The only thing after the filter and bag is the motor. Do you have suction with the hose removed? If not then the hose is clogged. If you have some, then the motor is the problem.

Dirt devil mvp not sucking

Could be bad filters, is there suction at the end of the hose. That will tell you which direction to start looking. If no suction at hose end, then filters could be the problem. If you have suction, then the problem is down lower, dirt inlet is clogged, if belt has never been changed, then I am sure it has stretch to the point that under load it doesn't turn like it should. Could even be that although the motor is running, it may be running at a slower speed, in which case it would have to be replaced.
