Thanks! I really appreciate your advice and expertise. I found the service manual for my monitor online and pinpoint what I think are two 1000uf caps. They look ok, but will probably proceed to replace them to see it this fixes the "flicker" issue. Thanks again.

The problem is in the power supply / inverter board, commonly caused by bulging capacitors at the top, "indicating they are open" the capacitors will need to be replaced to correct the issue.

good info. Based on your advice about the bulging capacitors, I checked and there are repair kits for this model. While at it I opened up the unit and took a peek at the board. I can't say for sure any are actually bulging. Hmmm. Maybe I should wait to see if the flcker worsens.

Or should I just go ahead and replace them all? What do you think is there anything else that may be the cause?

I recommend you replace them and check for bad solder joints because more damage may result if not serviced in a reasonable amount of time, the caps that bulge will have a slight cone shape on top compared to nice a flat top. The common values you are looking for will be 820uf and up that cause the most problems, so for example your monitor may have 1000uf capacitors in the power supply section.

I have an update. I had quit using the monitor because the flicker issue became>> I would power on and it would shutdown after a few seconds, so I set it aside until received the cap kit. Just replaced all the caps there were several. Still getting the same "newer" issue of it turning off after a few seconds. The display will work and is readable and then goes blank.

Any advice or troubleshooting ideas to pinpoint the problem?

    Thx, Dave

The cap kit will fix 90% of the problems in the monitor, if you have a meter check the regulator transistor for shorts or open and check the secondary parts in the power supply/ inverter board, it is possible the inverter transformers that power the back lights may be the issue, there are two of them "look like a black box" resolder the transformers. The other problem that concerns me is the back lights "may be faulty" two things I need to know! when monitor shutsdown does the power light stay on? second! does it still flicker before it shutting down? thanks John.

Monitor flickers on and off

power supply is more than likely going to need some new capictors. if you can solder its not a hard fix. just look at the power supply and look for swollen caps.

Assuming your cable is good & your PC (video card) is properly functioning & everything is plugged in correctly,;
If the screen flickers a bit when you start it, then the problem may be in the power circuits. Open the back & look for burned components on the circuit board. (capacitors, fuses, resistors, transistors, whatever.)

If it does not flicker then the bulb is likely burned out.

Vx2235wm lcd flickers a bit then turns white

White screen is an indication of a faulty video board.
A blown fuse in the actual screen will cause the same effect but usually these do not reset on a fresh startup.
You can check the ribbon going from the video board to the back of the screen to see if it is somehow working loose, but I think based on your description that this isn't the problem.

Viewsonic vx2235wm display issues

There are many areas of the LCD monitor that can cause very much the same effect that you see. Most of the time there are capacitors that go defective.

The caps can be tested with an ESR meter. This is a time consuming job. The caps are mostly surface mount types, and will require the proper tools to change them.

Normaly the service centers will change the defective boards rather than try to service them. There is no component level service support for any of these monitors.

In the end, it would be cheaper for you to replace the monitor rather than to fix it.
