Question about Computers & Internet

My system has been running EXTREMELY slow, even after reformatting the HD. I'm guessing that the memory is the issue and if it is I need all new, up to the max which should be 4gig

If you are waiting an unusually long time to open applications, or to access data on your hard drive (open/save files), then you probably need a RAM upgrade.

If you are running Windows, you can open the task manager (press Ctrl + Alt + Del) and go to the 'performance' tab. This will tell you how much RAM you are using. My recommendation is to run all the programs you usually use on a regular basis (for example, a casual user might open an internet browser with 5 tabs, a word processing application, and a music player, an artist would open and edit a large, uncompressed image, etc). If you are experiencing a low amount of free memory at this point, you should definitely consider buying more RAM. The lastest edition of Windows requires at least 2GB of memory in order to run the x64 version of the operating system. It is typical for a casual user to have at least 3-4GB of RAM in their main computer, and is an absolute necessity for enthusiasts.

Another issue (depending on the age of your computer) could be in what /kind/ of RAM you have. All memory is rated for 'speed', measured in MHz; the faster your memory, the better the performance. 1333MHz is a very typical speed, and should provide plenty of speed. Anything below 1066MHz is most likely an older technology, and therefor delivers slower performance. Depending on your motherboard, you may not be able to upgrade to faster RAM.

There are many, many options when it comes to purchasing RAM, so you should be able to find a price that suits your budget.

If tou formatted the drive and nothing else changed then Hard Disk Drive may be deffective. Verify no other antivirus is running and the unit recognizes same RAM as it has before

I need to reformat my pc because it running extremely slow. Should I reformat it back to windows xp or is it compatible to upgrade to windows 8?

You don't format a hard drive "back" to something, when you format a hard drive all that happens is that you rebuild the platter structure. If you can run Win 8 is an easy question, that you can answer yourself. Go to the microsoft site and download the Windows 8 system (upgrade) check program.

My computer doesn't work it said "failed to load kernel battery"

if it's too slow you should get these stuff to clean it.. 1-CCleaner (it cleans all unwanted cookies, temperarily files , etc...)

2-Zone alarm (it protects you like an antivirus while being extremely light to use)

finally ,, if the computer is still slow that means u should format it or put a new windows(can be downloaded and burned onto a CD off the torrents and many sites+ tutorials on youtube of how to) finally in some versions of windows you can install them giving you a hole new computer while still keeping your files, and data ..... hope it helps ^^

Slow action

Windows 2000 runs best on the s353. I have tried running Windows XP on it, but ran into driver issues (Toshiba never released XP drivers) and there's not enough memory (I also have 256MB).
I doubt it's even possible to install Vista on that computer.

If you're running Windows XP, you could just work with it, you could upgrade the memory, or you could back up all your data, reformat, and install 2000. Note that I do not recommend Windows ME, and that I've had issues running Windows 98 on mine.

If your computer is running an old version of windows but it's an old installation and you've not maintained it, you might just need to run a CCleaner scan, defragment your hard drive, and disable any software that's running in the background and doesn't need to be (but don't disable your antivirus :P)

Hello,

It sounds like maybe a memory issue. I would suggest running a test on the ram with DocMemory found at http://simmtester.com/page/products/doc/SendDocMemory.asp?ver=3.11_beta

You may need to register at this site in order to download the program. The registration is free. I have used this program many times and it seems to be a pretty trustworthy program.

You can review the Users Guide at http://www.simmtester.com/page/products/doc/docguide.pdf

Thanks
