Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have an old kenmore washer, on which I cannot find the model number. It needs a new drive belt. The only information that I have is that it is marked as a Kenmore Heavy Duty 80, and inside the door is the number "Stylemaster 902202". Does anybody know where I can find the model number, and does anyone know if parts are still available? We purchased the washer from the previous home owners in 1989, so the washer is older than that. Any ideas?

Go to a local Sears or Whirlpool store and tell them you have an old "belt drive" Kenmore washer that needs a new belt. All of these were built by Whirlpool Corporation and I believe used a common belt.

Good luck.

Need to replace the drive belt (I think!) on a Whirlpool washer model# 110.20912 990. The agitator won't turn but I can hear the motor run. Please tell me how to replace the belt. Thank you!!!

According to the model number you provided, there is not a belt on your machine. Probably what has broken is the coupler between the motor and the transmission. http www searspartsdirect com Kenmore Washer Parts Model 11020912990 0582...

Look at part # 13 the coupler. Hope this helps!

Belt is loose or needs replaced. on a 70 series kenmore washer machine

Can you provide the exact Make, Model and Kenmore model number? ..........

Kenmore model numbers use the format ###.######## with the first three digits of 110 for Whirlpool manufactured machines.........

The model number on top load washers is usually found by lifting the lid and looking above the tub.

The Fixya numbers are Stock Numbers.

Since basic top load direct drive, top load electronic and front load washers are very different, the actual Model Numbers are necessary to correctly diagnose the problem.

Slipping on direct drive washers is usually caused by a damaged / broken Motor Coupler or clutch.

If yours is a direct drive machine, see the following:

Kenmore 70 series washing machine spinning function is not drying clothes enough. Seems to work irratically. If I physically start spinning it, it will start to work.

This model washer does NOT have a drive belt. It uses a motor coupling in place of a drive belt and is reffered to as a "direct-drive" system.

The problem you are experiencing is usually caused by a worn gearcase assembly (transmission). If you wish to pursue this repair on your own, the following link explains step-by-step how to replace one:

Replacement parts can be found at the following websites:

The average cost varies, so shop and compare. The first three websites I listed also have helpful exploded view parts diagrams that can help you locate and properly identify the parts you need. NOTE: The Sears website will sometimes offer a refurbished gearcase for about half the price. The part number will have the letter "R" at the end.

This is not a difficult repair, but the cost averages about $150. It's still cheaper to purchase and replace the gearcase rather than buying a new washer. However, many consumers will base their decisions on whether or not to repair an applaince based on the age. To determine how old your washer is, you need to refer to the SERIAL NUMBER. The following link explains how to determine the date of manufacture on a Whirlpool manufactured appliance:
These washers are generally the simplest to repair and last about 15 to 20 years.

If you have any questions about how to determine the age of your appliance, or have any questions about repairs, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful. Please include your MODEL NUMBER when posting questions.

How do I replace the belt on my Kenmore top loading washing machine?

  1. Turn off the washer and unplug it.
  2. Lay the washer on its side so that you can get underneath it.
  3. Remove the old belt by rotating the pulleys that hold it while pulling the belt off of them.
  4. Find the markings on the belt that indicate its model number.
  5. Use this model number to order a new belt from an appliance store.
  6. Attach the new belt by placing it over the pulleys while slowly rotating them.
  7. Return the washer to the upright position and plug it back in.

Belt replacement on kenmore washer

One of the transmission bolts has to be removed to be able to remove the 1" spacer . You also have to turn the pulley which moves the wig-wag to move the glide foreward to drop the shaft of the drive. Very difficult unless you've done it before .

Kenmore washer (model # 110 24872300) won't agitate.

Your machine has no belt. It has a direct drive coupling. The direct drive coupling between the motor and transmission must be replaced.

Removing Back Panel of Kenmore Washer Model 11020902990

if its less than 15 years old its a direct drive whirlpool, no belt, remove the cabinet, not the back panel. look up direct drive whirlpool washer cabinet removal on internet, and replace the coupler, most likely, if it drains.
