Question about Bernina Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Bernina Matic 801 Electronic sewing machine and can't get it threaded correctly so it will sew. It looks right but it won't work with the bobbin properly. Don't know what I am doing wrong. Don't have a book.

The top thread will not pick up the spool thread The machine is 801 electronic

Try a brand new needle. Also, verify it is threaded correctly. If that doesn't work, then it is possible the machine is out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

I have a Bernina Sport 801. The thread has started to flip off the thread take up while Im sewing. I tried tightening the tension a bit which helped for a second. Ideas? Thanks.

I experienced the same issue with an older Pfaff, especially when I sew very fast. I fashioned a piece of tape to close the opening in the take-up more jumping thread! You can probably use other items (like hot glue) to close the opening. A cheap fix that works!

I have a bernina 801 sewing machine. I am unable to dis engage the wheel to reload the bobbin, it will not turn

Have you ever lubricated it? Sewing machines must be periodically cleaned and lubricated or they will get stuck and freeze up

Bernina 801 tension problems

When you thread the top thread, be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot so the thread will seat completely in the tension unit. Your machine is an older metal mechanical machine which makes it last a lot longer than the newer plastic computerized models. However, parts do wear, so perhaps the tension unit has become worn and loose over time and use. If you find you have find you are using a consistently high tension, you may need to have your machine serviced. In addition, slightly increasing the bobbin tension may help balance out the top tension.

The cotton on my bernina 801 keeps jamming

Loops on bottom indicate a top thread tension problem.

Make sure needle is the correct size and not bent or broken
Make sure it is threaded properly with the lever UP.

Do a test stitch.

If it still loops below... tighten the top tension and do another test stitch... keep doing this until the stitch is balanced.

BTW... always grasp and hold both threads when starting a seam.

Sewing machine no movement

I know what the problem is. Its a cracked gear. When you have the top open look at the big fiber gear on top. It is common for these to crack and now it is stuck. Needs a Bernina service guy to replace it. There is one more smaller fiber gear near the handwheel inside that could be cracked also.

Similar issue with bunching on the bottom side of vinyl

when sewing thick fabrics and when using thick threads you will usually need to tighten top tension - on most machines to maximum in order for the machine to pull the thread up into the fabric. you must also use a needle which will slide along the thread when thread is through eye of needle (take needle out of machine, put thread through eye and see if needle will pass freely along thread - if not, use a larger needle)
