I need to remove my dell optiplex GX280 motherboard

You're supposed to pull up on the Green tab, then slide the Support Plate (Metal tray), with the motherboard on it towards the Front of the computer,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx280/en/ug/replbrd0.htm

Scroll down towards the bottom of the page,

"If your system board is mounted to the chassis using a metal tray, remove the tray and the board as one piece: Pull up on the tab and slide the system board assembly toward the front of the computer, and then lift the board away"

SATA Hard Drive Type The Dell Optiplex GX280 Takes?

Hi,

It makes no difference providing the computer motherboards support SATA interface.

SATA 1 and 2 drivers are in the BIOS. If all the computers have SATA 1 you can upgrade the BIOS to latest version via Dell's support website.

The fan(which runs on a bearing) has aged, it must be replaced. Luckily this is an easy and cheap fix. Pick one

Dell Optiplex GX280 - On power ON , no Fan movement no display

Confirm no leaking or bulging capacitors on your mothboard.
refer to here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

As this was a common problem with the GX280.
If found, you will need to replace the capacitors.

The other check is to make sure the heatsink is fitted correctly, perhaps reaply the thermal paste if you have any. I know that high temps would switch the GX280 off.

Dell Optiplex Gx280 - cant detect two IDE hard drives

Hi,

You should attach two hard drives on primary ide. Set both jumpers to cable select ( or one on end is master, middle one is slave). The one at the end of the cable is where your o/s should be. You could try putting the third on seconday, along with your dvd rom.

Hi,
First select the chassis type of GX280 you have from the link below
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx280/en/ug/index.htm

The page would redirect you to the user manual for the system
Look under Add Remove components > Processor or motherboard.

The Fan removal instructions are given step by step with pictures
