Question about Canon PIXMA Pro 9500 InkJet Photo Printer

2 Answers

The photo magenta on my Canon Pro9500 isn't working properly. I've cleaned and deep cleaned, run all the tests, but it still only prints half of the color bar on the test print. Any thoughts on what to do? Thank you!

    Hi,

Thanks. I already did this. Any other thoughts?

  • ngriskey Mar 26, 2011

Thank you. How do you take out the print head?

  • ngriskey Mar 27, 2011

Thank you. I reinstalled the print driver and shook the tanks, but I'm still having the same problem. The printer prints all colors fine except for pink. When I run the "test page" all the color bars print properly except for the photo magenta which only prints half of the color bar. I've changed the cartridge and done all the cleaning. Anything else I can try? Another person said to take out the print head and clean it manually, but I'm not sure how to do that.

    Thanks so much!

Hi

My question is does it prints fine when printing? Or same thing, it print half page only and stops, the problem is the printer driver got corrupted. I suggest you uninstall and reinstall again the printer driver and set up once more the printer.

Try to shake also the toner cartridge to distribute evenly the toner power that might stuck up or stick together.

If not, try to use the old toner cartridge you are using to check if the problem is the toner cartridge it self. Just shake it when to distribute evenly the toner that might stuck up or stick together.

Plz post comment for more help.

But add again the printer once more? If not, set it up once more? Is that a toner cartridge or ink cartridge?

  • Benjamin Jr Singson Mar 27, 2011

Cleaning the print head is only available in ink cartridges, where you need to rub the print head into a plain paper with alcohol until ink flows, then try to print the nozzle for 2 times.

I also suggest to go to printing preferences and look for the restore default setting to bring bakc the old setting. The try this hard reset the printer

A hard reset of the printer may clear the error. Here is how to perform the hard reset:
    1.Shut down the computer.
2.Open the top cover of the printer and remove the print cartridges.
3.Close the top cover of the printer.
4.Press the power button on the printer to turn the printer off.
5.Disconnect the communications, (USB or Parallel), cable from the back of the printer.
6.Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer for one minute.
7.Reconnect the communications cable to the printer.
8.Reconnect the power cable to the printer.
9.Press the printer power button to turn the printer on.
10.Open the top cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
11.Close the top cover and print the calibration page.
    12.Restart the computer.

Try to restore default setting of your printer. Go printer and faxes, right click mouse, choose printing preference, from the tab menu, look for the restore default setting button. Let someone help you if you cannot find it. Also, I suggest you set up once more the printer and set it as default printer.Regards.

Replace the magenta ink tank.
Unpack the new ink tank and remove the orange protective cap* from the bottom of the ink tank and discard it. Do not touch the electrical contacts on the ink tank (circled area). Doing so can cause the printer to malfunction or become unable to print.Insert the ink tank into the Print Head. Make sure the tops of all ink tanks are level.Press on the PUSH mark on the ink tank until the ink tank snaps firmly into place.Ensure that the ink tank lamp lights red. Ensure that all the ink tanks are installed in the order directed by the label. The printer cannot be used unless all the ink tanks are installed.

Hi Mandy
1) confirm there is ink in the magenta cartridge first - by removing it from printer and looking through the ink 'window'.
If you can't see the ink level, it's either empty or very close to it. If so, replace the cartridge.
2) If ink level looks ok, install it back in printer then set out a full page of magenta (or red) background or large graphic and print few pages on high print quality setting until the magenta starts to print. This works better than printhead cleaning/deep cleaning because it wastes less ink.
3) If it still doesn't print red after 2-3 pages, the printhead is blocked. Take it out and rinse under hot water tap. Keep washing it until only clean water is coming out. Shake any water off then DRY the electrical contacts really well. Don't install a wet printhead back in printer - or you may damage it. Run one or two deep cleans and print a nozzle check. With bit of luck all colours will work now...

good luck!

My pictures all seem to print with a yellowish / orange tint; they also seem brighter than on the screen.

Hy, this is a clasic case. you need to replace the printhead. I know this sounds drastic but this is the only way. BTW, I service and sell Canon products and have seen this many times.

All of our photos end with a magenta to purplish hue. We are using Canon inks, and followed standard trouble-shooting procedures; checked proper placement, printer alignment, deep cleaning. We are also...

Print a "test" page:

<HTML><BODY>
<FONT COLOR="#FF0000"> RED TEXT </FONT><HR>
<FONT COLOR="#00FF00"> GREEN TEXT </FONT><HR>
<FONT COLOR="#0000FF"> BLUE TEXT </FONT><HR>
<FONT COLOR="#FFFF00"> MIX RED & GREEN INK </FONT><HR>
<FONT COLOR="#FF00FF"> MIX RED & BLUE INK </FONT><HR>
<FONT COLOR="#00FFFF"> MIX GREEN & BLUE INK </FONT><HR>
</BODY>
</HTML>

and see if the printed colors are "true" to what you see on the computer-screen.

MAGENTA NOT PRINTING

The other week I had the black print head clog up, requiring daily nozzle deep cleaning [a normal 'ocassional' maintenance function]. Thought I needed a new Print head, so anything worth a try.
I loaded up an old black cartridge [I load all my own......always have] with Isopropyl Alcohol and ran deep clean on that cartridge a couple of times, then repeat printed [6 times] a page full of the number 8 in about half inch character size, to get the alcohol through the nozzles. then Deep cleaned again 3 times, to wash it through the print head.

I reloaded the normal ink filled cartridge and ran the '8' page again till I got good black output. It has now been working without problem, daily, for over a week. Clearly if it's a Magenta only problem, the cleaning as described above would be a bit different, as the magenta is one of 4 colour cartridges.
My printer does quite a lot of work, and was bought at least a couple of years ago, being used daily for alpha numeric and photo printing work. This was the first difficulty I experienced with it.
Hope the above might help.Ken

IP4300 only recognizes magenta OR cyan

1. Get compressed air
2. Run Printhead under HOT water, do not worry about contacts getting slightly wet.

3. Blow compressed air with straw attachment into screens where the cartridge nozzle sits on printhead. then let it sit and dry.

4. reinstall print test page

5. if this fails open paint/photoshop and print a page of the color that is not printing correctly. rinse and repeat until colors flow freely.

I have several ip4300s and I have yet to give up the ghost on a printer with a clog ujsing this method.

Canon i9900 isn't printing photo magenta

Use denatured alcohol to soak the print head. Then use suction to draw the alcohol back thru to the foam ports where the ink cartridges rest. Continue until the alcohol runs clear. Then use water and then repeat with alcohol. Allow to dry and re-install in printer. Use new ink cartridges when re-starting printing.

Magenta printing as yellow

Well, first off, are the alignment, and nozzle check sheets looking good? If not, then work on that. If so, then we have a problem. Try creating a test sheet in Word. Make red, yellow blue & black text and see if anything else prints wrong. Get back to me!
