Question about VCRs

Recording Sony Handycam video footage to video

I have a Sony Handycam that still records on size 8 (the small ones) videos. I can't get my footage to show when I connect the cables to the front of the VCR. Mainly I am trying to transfer our home movies to regular VCR videos.

I can get them to show on the TV if I plug it into the front of the TV, but then it won't record it from the VCR. It only records what is on the main TV channel.

PLEASE HELP...I have 2 years worth of videos to transfer.

You have to tell the vcr which input to record on. Instead of a channel try "Line 1" or "input 1" or "Video 1". you can get there by going to channel 01 and pressing channel down a few times. match whats written above the input jacks with what's on the screen.

HOW DO I RECORD WITH A SONY SLV-N77 MANUAL DOES NOT HAVE ANY DIRECTIONS

Looks like a great brand with good features for the price.
  1. Connect Video & Audio Cables to a video signal source
  2. Connect Power Cable
  3. Turn on VCR.
  4. Insert a blank tape in the VCR.
  5. Note - A Broken Tab on the back of tape will prevent recording. This is called Write Protection.
  6. Cover the tab hole if you want to record over old video.
  7. Press RECORD on the VCR remote control.
  8. After a minute, press Stop, then PLAY to see recording.
  9. Cheers

Is it possible to transfer video recordings from Sony video cassette recorder EVO-9800 to computer (apple)Thank you,George

Yes you just need some software and a what's called a capture device. Generally these can be purchased together. Just search Amazon for video capture software, suitable for your Apple. When assessing what's best, pay close attention to the specifications of the software, make certain they match your PC.
If the video has SVHS output, connect that to the PC you will get a better recording. The Capture Device will have connectors to link your video to the PC.

Lost manual. Cannot get HR A591U JVC VCR program to record a future cable tv program. Seems I have tried everything but it does not record as I set up. It will record an existing show by pressing...

Timer Recording JVC VCR HR A591U
Timer recording can be programmed on-screen with
the remote control. The built-in timer allows automatic
unattended recording of up to 8 programs within 1
month.

EXAMPLE: Program a timer recording for the 26th day,
channel 125 (CATV), 11:00 - 11:30 PM on timer program
number 1 (Tape speed: EP).

When a TV is connected with an audio/video cable, turn the
TV and this VCR on and select the video input mode on the
TV.

• After timer recording is completed, the VCR turns off
automatically.
• You can program the timer recording while a regular
recording is in progress; the menu screens will not be
recorded.
• The timer recording will start at 20 seconds before the time
you predetermined.

Press MENU on the Remote.
Check the “TIMER REC SET”
option is selected, then press
ENTER.

Press SET –/+ to select one of
the program lines, then press
ENTER.

Press SET –/+ to select the
date, then press ENTER.

Set the start time, end time,
channel and tape speed as in
step 3.
NOTE: To record from external
source, press SET –/+
and set the channel to
"L". "L" will appear next
to CH 125 (or 69).

To enter other programs,
repeat step 2 through 4. Or,
press MENU twice to return
to the normal screen.

Press TIMER on the Remote.
The power will go off, the
TIMER REC indicator ( ) will
light and the VCR stands by
for recording.

To cancel a program:

Press the SET –/+ to select the
“TIMER REC SET” option in the
MENU. Then press SET –/+ to
select the unnecessary program,

Does not record, but plays back

One possibility is that the record sensor in the video that pushes on the back of a video tape where the tab that can be broken off to prevent recording on to the tape, is either bent out of shape or broken. They are often small switches easly replaced.

One of the units is not making good interchange in recording (CAMCORDER) or (PLAYBACK) DSR11 deck either buy or get a known good recording to isolate the bad unit. Camcorders are notorious for loss of interchange as the cassette compartment wears out the scissors jack elevator gets sloppy and changes the angle of attack on the drum and wellah a tape that only plays back in the camcorder.
