Re: my scanner don'e work with vista
Simply do this. Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Compatibility Wizard Set the machine for XP or Win 98 There appears to be no specific drivers for much hardware such as this. This is an on going conflict. If the above advice does not work then you are stuck with going back to XP or buying a new canner

Vista is the laughing stock of IT pros everywhere. Vista is truly the bastard child of Bill Gates. Go on Canon web site and look for updated drivers to run on Vista or downgrade back to XP, which is more user friendly with peripherals.
This will work: 1) Download the drivers for XP from Canon's website 2) Install the drivers. 3) They will install to C:/Temp/CanoScanCSUv571a, go there 4) There is a compressed file called: CanoScanCSUv571a.exe in the foler 5) Use 7-zip to uncompress the folder 6) Plug in your scanner 7) Go to your device manager under the Control Panel 8) Go to Imaging Devices and select your scanner 9) Right click to update driver information 10) Select browse my computer for driver software 11) Type in: C:\Temp\CanoScanCSUv571a 12) Click next and your scanner will work.
go to UMAX 4100 scanner installation CD that comes with the scanner and find the setup.exe file and on it clik left mouse and then right mouse and choose properties and then choose "Install in WinXP-Sp2 compaitibility mode" ...Thats its . Then it will install in Visa and will work perfectly. Only when you startup the Vista it gives you some error message "incompitable Os" etc ..just cancells the message ..and your Umax 4100 Scanner will work perfectly.
The VueScan program will work, but you have to go into device manager (Right-click "My computer" choose "Manage" select "Device Manager")
In device manager, you will probably see the scanner detected with a yellow triangle. Right-click the scanner and choose "Upgrade Driver" then choose "browse my computer for updated driver" and browse the the "VueScan" folder on your C drive.
Once you do that Vista will update to the VueScan Driver and you'll be ready to go (once you pay the nice folks at VueScan so that your scans don't have watermarks on them)
Go to that web page above and download those drivers and install then your scanner should work..
You need to install a compatibl;e Vista driver
