Question about ViewSonic PJD6531W Projector

1 Answer

Our ViewSonic projector was turned on to warm it up 10 minutes before a presentation. The presentation was to go 1.5 hours. At about an hour into the presentation, the ViewSonic PJD6531w Projector lamp suddenly shut off and the fan came on very loudly. We assume it was overheated. We pressed the 'On' button to restart the lamp and it came back on in about two minutes. The projector worked fine for another 15 minutes then suddenly the lamp shut off again. Is there a way to keep the projector from overheating? A setting that can be changed or something. This is a brand new unit the we just bought.

Have you cleaned out the air filter. Try running in full fan speed operation.
is the unit well ventilated, or in an enclosed space.

Projector clocked 1000 hours roughly and working fine. However 1 day I tried to turn it own and seems completely dead. no blue light. fuse r al good

Does this projector have an automatic timer that doesn't allow it to turn on after a set number of hours (@ 1000)? If so, you may need to re-set the lamp-hour clock (as if you changed the lamp even though you didn't). Some machines require you to at least slide open the lamp cover to make it think that you changed it.

Make sure the PC itself is not going into a power saving or screen saver mode...this is the most common issue when playing completely automated presentations or movies.
Normally, I suggest turning off all power saving functions in the PC or Laptop, and disabling the screen saver all together.

The early lamp failures are due to poor air flow or longer hours of use.
So take care to clean the filters, see that the lamp brigtness is not put too high and reduce the hours of continuous use.

Just replaced bulb when cold it has trouble lighting.

it's not the lamp, it's the ballast. when it's fully discharged, it needs too much power to start. once it has the caps charged (when it's been running and warm), it'll start right away. it sounds as if the capacitors on the ballast are drying up. best to replace the ballast. after you do, make sure the projector is free of dust and dirt. excessive dust will cause premature power and lamp failure due to lack of cool down.

Viewsonic Projector PJ557D "Screen Flip"

Check the power settings o nthe laptop, go to control panel, power options. see if its set to turn off the screen if theres no activity. I doubt this is your problem but worth a try. Going back to the viewsonic picture means its not getting a signal. So either the cable may be faulty which is less likely, or it is a software problem. Does the screen flicker on the laptop when doing the same thing (if the projector is not connected)?

Lamp and temp lights come on after power up and stay on. Lamp only has 330 hours on it.

OK, that explains it. The bulb you have installed in the projector might be the original bulb that came with the projecoter when it was new. Just becuase it states 334 hours does not mean it is new. In fact, you could have a original bulb with 3000 hrs and reset the hour timer on the projector, which means your 3000 hour bulb might have 3334 hours on it because the person who owned it before you, reset the hour timer.. Best bet, buy a new bulb and reset the hour meter and see what happens. If you have the same problem, then your ballest might needs to be replace which is rare...

Viewsonic PJ556d shuts down after 30-60 seconds

My solution sounds dumb, I had the same issue. Took the lamp cover off the bottom. The screws were loose holding in the lamp. Maybe they heat and expand and eventually work their way out and the lamp doesn't make good contact. Just tightened mine up, the unit would power off after 45 minutes prior. Been on now for 5 hours, no trouble.
