It would be helpful to know the model number, but if you are talking about a newer HTC smart phone you can do what is called "side loading". This is taking the actual update file and downloading it to your phone's SD card and then resetting the phone and installing the file by yourself. I would recommend having strong knowledge of computers and cell phones to do this. Because you will need to find a trusted website where you can download the file, copy it to the phone and know how to bring your phone back up in the boot loader.
If you are not "tech savvy", I would take your phone to the carrier store and have their tech people upgrade the phone. They should do it for free, whether or not it is under the 1 year warranty.
