Question about Maytag MED9600S Electric Dryer

3 Answers

My dryer does not turn on when pressing the control on button. I have done every test in the tech manual. Every Button Checks out with my fluke and every button and light comes on during the diagnostic test. I have checked power to the dryer everything checks out fine. During the diagnostic test which may be nothing if i press the control on button the temp led's go off and on with a press of the button and of course a beep. Any idea's why it will not turn on with just the Control On button? thanks

    thermostat checks out fine?????

  • joe_smo Mar 25, 2011

MED9600SQ0 dryer the control on button does not turn on the display. Did the diagnostic test and every button passes also did a button test with my meter and every button checked out fine. What gets me is the panel turns on with the diagnostic test and even the start button starts the drive motor. I am an electrician by trade but not with home appliances. I have 240 Volts to the dryer, moisture sensor, thermistor, thermal cut-off, high limit thermostat, thermal fuse, heater element and even door switch all check out. During the diagnotic test i push the control on button which triggers a beep but the temp led's go out and come back on with each push of the button and so does the temp button? any idea's???? thanks

  • joe_smo Mar 25, 2011

so the Console Electronic Board or the Machine Control Board is bad? I don't believ it is the control button itself it checks out fine with an ohm meter pressed and unpressed..

  • joe_smo Mar 25, 2011

door switch checks out fine I even jumped the closed side of the switch out with a jumper and still the same problem????

  • joe_smo Mar 25, 2011

do you know what the part number is off hand and a website with the best deal on this part?

  • joe_smo Mar 25, 2011

door switch checks out fine connected and not connected to the machine control board.

  • joe_smo Mar 25, 2011

dryer starts fine nothing binding or anything.

  • joe_smo Mar 25, 2011

motor starts fine no hum takes right off during the diagnostic test by pressing the start button. Problem is the Control panel does not turn on when i press the control on button, but every button checks out according to the diagnostic test and even checking each button with my meter? so unless the control panel board can still be bad even with all the tests saying it isn't then im leaning towards the machine control board but just a guess and these parts are expensive so i don't like buying things on just a guess...

  • joe_smo Mar 25, 2011

sorry if you are getting alot of questions but im not sure if you got my first one. The motor starts fine the problem is that when i go to put a load in the dryer and press the control on button the display doesn't turn on. I do the diagnostic test with the +,-,+,- buttons to activate the diagnostic test and every button checks out the door switch does and the moisture sensor everything the motor starts fine with the start button. the control panel checks out with my meter everything???? so unless the control panel can still be bad but pass the diagnostic test then i have no idea if it would even be the machine control board but i don't want to buy a expensive part if it is not that part.

  • joe_smo Mar 27, 2011

door switch checks out fine and i jumped it out even. still the same problem. the motor starts fine with the start button during the diagnostic test. My issue is the control panel will not turn on when i press the CONTROL ON button. During the diagnostic test the +,-,+,- sequence every LED lights up and every button checks out with a beep and an LED off and on. Only weird thing is during the diagnostic test if i press the CONTROL ON button the LED's go off and on in the TEMP LED's and the TEMP button does the samething in its row. I do get a beep when pressing the CONTROL ON button so that tells me that it see's the button. I also checked with my fluke and it checks out through the ribbon.. so what is it i don't want to buy an expensive part on just a guess

  • joe_smo Mar 27, 2011

the control on button seems to be part #31 on the diagram actaully the plastic plunger not the actual button on the circuit board. So even when tested with my fluke for resistance when pushed and not pushed and checks out and during the diagnostic test when i press the Control On button it beeps BUT the lights go out on the TEMP LED Row the board can be bad? Your answers have made the most sense as a fault out of everyone else though just wanted to make sure before i almost order a $300 part.

  • joe_smo Mar 27, 2011

NOT every LED goes out on the display just the LED's in the Temp row

  • joe_smo Mar 27, 2011

thank you i emailed them and i will let you know what i find out

  • joe_smo Mar 28, 2011

  • joe_smo Mar 28, 2011

Have you checked the door switch this is one of the first pieces that you should check you can actually jump past the switch by takeing a wire and stripping off both ends and inserting each into the each side of the connector. this is the first place you should start checking the next would be the wiring doing continuity tests to the motor from the timer if you have power going to the motor but the motor does not start then you have a bad motor you can test this by taking your multimeter and setting it to check voltage and putting the lead on the hot side of the motor and having someone press the button this requires you take out the entire drum to do this type of test and lastly you would look at the timer for shorted wires or loose connection message me back with your finds personally if you havent checked the dryer switch it sounds like that is your culprit I await your reply as well as if you have any further questions Thanks Rick

Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it. Here is a link to the part.

When you push start, does the dryer attempt to start or make a humming sound or is it quiet?

  • amyellenkend Feb 24, 2013

I have a similar problem. We replaced the door switch but that has not helped. When we press the "Control On" button, nothing happens. When the dryer door is opened, the interior light does go on. Sometimes the control on will work, other times not. Another weird thing that may or may not be related is that when the dryer is running, it sometimes beeps multiple times throughout the cycle. Dryer is working fine when it does turn on. Thanks!

Hi

I believe that everything else is fine rather it is the thermostat that is located inside the rear panel to the exhaust duct that is bad and should be replaced. If you want you can test this fuse for continuity and if bad replace it as it cannot be reset. If the fuse is fine then check the dryer belt and idler pulley...Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

My cabrio wtw6200sw2 has F50 code and won't spin I can't seem to find out what the code means. Could it be the motor coupler or controller board?

The F50 code for the Whirlpool Cabrio is most commonly a Motor Control Board failure.

Motor Stalled
F then 50 flashes when the motor rotor position sensor (RPS) senses no rotation.

DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
There are three diagnostic test modes available: Automatic, Manual and Console. These tests allow the factory or service personnel to test and verify all inputs to the machine/motor control. You may want to allow the automatic test cycle to complete prior to going into specific troubleshooting tests.

ACTIVATION OF AUTOMATIC DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE
  1. Be sure the washer is in standby mode (plugged in with all indicators off; or with only the Clothes Clean or Done indicator on).
  2. Select any one button (except POWER, START, STOP and PAUSE/CANCEL) and follow the steps below, using the same button (remember the button):
  • Press/hold 3 seconds.
  • Release for 3 seconds.
  • Press/hold 3 seconds.
  • Release for 3 seconds.
  • Press/hold 3 seconds.
  • If this test mode has been entered successfully, all indicators on the console are illuminated for 5 seconds with 88 showing in the Estimated Time Remaining two-digit display.
  • If indicators do not display as described above, the press/hold/release procedure above may not have been performed within the time frame necessary for successful entry. Repeat step 2 to ensure this was not the cause.
  • If still unsuccessful, see Diagnostic: Unsuccessful Entry.
  1. The program then checks for saved fault codes:
? If there are no saved fault codes, all indicators on the console will momentarily turn off, then
turn back on with 88 displayed. After 5 seconds, the Automatic test, below, begins.

DIAGNOSTIC: Automatic
Performs a five-minute automatic test with water functions to check major washer functions (door can be open). Press the same button used in step 2 above to advance through automatic test steps.

NOTE: Basket must be floating in order to agitate.

Hi

Error E68 on Frigidaire dryer means that One of the keys (buttons) is stuck closed (active). Please check whether any button is pressed or stuck. Also try removing the lint filter and clean the contacts of the inside of the filter.
Try performing function test to check which button is at fault. Enter function test mode and perform key (button) test to determine which button is at fault. Carefully free the and perform the test again. If button is free but the key struck code still exists then you'll need to replace the electronic control.

Function Test--

1. Press and hold Select and Cancel buttons simultaneously for 6 seconds to reset the control. The buzzer will sound 1 time and “rES” will be shown briefly in the display.
2. Immediately after, rotate cycle selector knob 5 turns counter-clockwise to the second position from the bottom. Press and hold the Options and Cancel buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds. The control will enter test mode, the buzzer will sound 3 times and all LED’s will rapidly flash.
To EXIT test mode, press and hold the Select and Cancel buttons simultaneously for 6 seconds or disconnect power from dryer. Dryer will be reset for regular operation.

Please post back for any further assistance.

Our Kenmore Elite HE4 gas dryer will not start although all controls on front are lite and appear to be functioning properly (settings can be changed, etc). I has been working fine for several hours until...

check the door switch and door latch. Open door, set the dryer to air fluff cycle, and manually depress the door switch. Press start button. If it started - door needs alignment to fix it.
If it did not start:
If your dryer has light inside - check if light turns off when you press the switch. If not - switch needs replacement.
If all that checks out ok - the problem is more serious, and you might need a tech to come out and diagnose it.

GE Dryer model DSXH47 keeps shutting off after about 30-40 sec.

It could be the door switch. If it vibrates a bit then the door switch senses it's open and shuts down. Give it a look

Whirlpool duet dryer will not start. Panel lights come on as usual and when press start machine clicks and will not start. Light on wet sensor lights and no drying action begins.

press the cancel button on the machine. Then do this. press and hold the start button for 2 seconds then release wait 2 seconds and press and hold again for 2 seconds continue this pattern until the dryer goes into test mode. You will see all the lights on the control light up. press each button on the control one at a time 3 times each. (Do not press the cancel button) until the dryer begins to run. When the dryer starts to run then press the cancel button. Then your machine should function properly. This is a secret test and reset for your dryers control, so please keep this between us. The whirlpool people would be heart broke if they see this posted on the web ;-) . If your dryer will still not start after this test, you may need a new control. If you need a part let me know and I can ship it right to you. Good luck and I hope this will fixYa and saves you the $400.00 it would cost for whirlpool to send a certified tech to come to your home.

Not properly drying

If you remove the front cover hitting the reset switch is rather easy. However I did that the other day and only got 1 load done before it tripped again.

I just picked this dryer up used from a buddy the other day and am already having trouble. Also... It runs very loud. How loud is yours complared to the washer?

Kenmore Oasis Dryer - CF codes 01, 02, 03

Remove the top console (plastic control panel) of the dryer ( 3 screws on the back, tip and slide forward). Inside the console or taped under it should be the tech sheet for the dryer (unless a previous service person did not put it back).

Read over the tech sheet. In there there will be a section on how to initiate the computer's diagnostic routine. This is typically activated by pressing and holding any button on the console (other than the stop button) for 2-5 seconds, seven times in a row. When activated all the LEDs (lights) on the console illuminate, and then the console displays the actual “F” error/failure codes. In many cases with these Oasis Dryers (model 110.67082600) and similar models the typical one which will be displayed will be F-02 code (even if you got CF 01, 02 and/or 03 before activating the diagnostic routine. F-02 indicates that a button (or possibly several) on the front (user interface) console is simply stuck. If this is the code you get, simply press each of the buttons on the main console and to find which button is indeed sticking (i.e. the one that doesn't work will be the culprit). Save the Stop button for last as that button exits the diagnostic mode, if it is not the one that is sticking.

The tech sheet (which again shold have been right inside the console housing) explains step by step how to remove the console interface board from the console housing (3 screws and 3 plastic clips). Sometimes simply plaing with the button on the board will get it unstuck, but a simple spray with electronics contact cleaner (which can be purchased at any Radio Shack or other electronics parts store) into the base of the stuck switch on the board, and pressing it quickly a few times will usually do the trick. Once the button is unstuck, no more error code, and the dryer will work fine again. If you can't seem to get the button unstuck (or if it is really damaged), you can either replce the button switch yourself (if you have the electronics and soldering know-how), or buy a new console board from one of the many online parts houses for around $100.

Again you will need to locate the tech sheet inside the console housing or order one from Whirlpool or Sears for you model for under $10 if yours is missing. Some models vary in what each code means so you will need the tech sheet to be sure.

Best of Luck Everone...
