Maddog MegaSTOR 18X Triple Format External DVD-RW Burner

Dear Maddog,

I have a Maddog, MegaSTOR, 18X triple format External DVD-RW, which I've been using to burn DVD's taken from my camcorder, which uses mini DVD's, and they work beautifully. I have recently gotten into editing, and am editing the same mini DVD's on an Adobe program, and then burning them on Maddog. The edited DVD's play on my lap top, and mini DVD player, but when I play them on a regular TV, with a DVD player, they become blurry. Please advise if there is a solution, or if it is not possible to format them for regular television.

Thanks,
Angelo D. Curmaci

SOURCE: DVD movie onto a CD-RW

To fit a DVD quality move on to a CD-R you need to re-encode the main movie files from MPEG2 to AVI in Xvid format. However once in XVID format a standard DVD player will not play it at all.

Some modern DVD Players with XVID or DIVX support *CAN* play the files avi Xvid/Divx from CD and DVD discs, others can only do it from DVD.

After any conversion you will generally loose DVD extras, indices, subtitles, angles and other advanced DVD settings when converting to XVID.

Re-encoding can be cpu intensive and time consuming.

XVID does carry various audio formats which may not need to be re-encoded. such as MP3, AAC or DTS.

I agree. My HR720 DVD not only would not burn discs but also had trouble playing them. I was ready for throwing it in the bin!
I gave the solution a try as mentioned by mysus. Works fine now. Thanks a lot for the info mysus.

SOURCE: MacBook and Mad Dog Multimedia Compatible?

I have been using my Mad Dog External CD/DVD burner for serveral years now on both Mac & PC. However, I do have intermittant issues when the computer recognizes the Mad Dog but my software does not (Toast). There is no driver for Mac as far as I know. I called Mad Dog one time and they rudely suggested that Mac does not need a driver and that I should know that. No help at all!!! I will try the suggestion for PCs to turn everything off, turn on the Mad Dog, then boot my computer and see if that works. Does anyone else use a Mac and have more solutions?????

SOURCE: vcr/dvd burner combo

You will have to go into the dvd menu and finalize the disc for it to play on any other player. Check in your manual for more information.

MacBook and Mad Dog Multimedia Compatible?

According to http://www.mdmm.com/spec.php?productid=160 (check the requirements tab, note that it doesn't work on firefox due to bad coding), it only supports Windows 2000 and Windows XP (even though it doesn't say so, it's likely it's also supported by Windows 98 and Vista) but unless someone made drivers for mac os x, it doesn't look like it'll work.
