Sounds like the monitor is fine...it's the computer that has the issue. Does the computer that reads "no signal" work with a different monitor? If not, then it's def. the computer that is bad or some sort of hardware has gone bad. Could be onboard video that is bad, may need to get a cheap vga card. Let me know more details.

Two of the most occurring failures for a Desktop PC is;
1) The computer is dirty inside
2) The Power Supply is bad

Air flow is used to cool the hardware components inside the computer.
If 'Gunk' is built up on the cooling components of the cooling system, the cooling capacity drops tremendously.

['Gunk' = Dust, dirt, lint, hair, food crumbs, you name it ]

If the Processor overheats it turns off. (BIOS turns it off)
This is a fail safe feature to keep the Processor from burning up.
(The Processor and the graphics chipset, are the two hardware components inside a computer that give off the most heat)

Your computer could be dirty inside, AND you could have a bad Power Supply. The Power Supply has Heatsinks inside.
Finned objects designed to absorb from whatever object they are placed against, and heat is then radiated away with the fins.
The small internal fan helps carry heat away from the Heatsink's fins.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ATX_power_supply_interior-1000px_transparent.png

If the fins of the Heatsink are clogged with Gunk, and the fan's blades, center hub, and surrounding cage (Shroud), are clogged, the Power Supply will overheat.

Heat = Wasted energy
The Power Supply will try to keep up with the call for power, but will eventually fail. (Hardware component failure inside the Power Supply)

1) If ALL of the LED lights were on at once, they would use less than 1 Watt of power.
2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts of power.

3) A typical Processor can use from 51 to 125 Watts of power. Just depends on what processor it is.

This is is why fans may spin, and/or LED's light, and/or the optical drive may/may not work.

Not enough power to turn the Processor on -> non-working computer.
No computer -> no video signal to the monitor.
No Signal, or monitor going into Sleep Mode, or Power Saver Mode ->
no video signal from computer.

Computer clean on the inside, (Q-tips, and can of compressed air for computers), see if there is a working computer that is unused, so you can borrow the Power Supply for a test unit.

(KNOWN to be working Power Supply, and compatible)

Or use a multimeter to check the 3 main voltages, coming from the Power Supply.
[3.3 Volts, 5 Volts, and 12 Volts. All are -> DC voltage.
In comparison two D cell flashlight batteries store 3 Volts DC ]

An economical multimeter can be purchased for as little, as $5 to $12.
Available in a multitude of stores. An auto parts store is but one example.

Acer ASpire M1100 shows No Signal on monitor

Any time a monitor says "no signal" that message is originating from the monitor itself, and not from the computer. A monitor in a room by itself with no computer will say "no signal" for a brief time, if it is turned on. So, if you have tried other monitors also with no luck, then the problem is either the video adapter of the computer, or something that is keeping the computer from booting in the first place (power supply, hard drive, memory, motherboard). A power supply can be tested with an inexpensive tool. Everything else needs either a swap out with a known good stand-in, or else an expensive tool to know if it works.Does the fan come on when you turn the computer on? If so, maybe more likely to be the motherboard, hard disk, or memory. If not, more likely to be the power supply.

Hi

Resetting is only part ofthe solution.

You need some mechanical competence to attempt an internal repair by removing, cleaning and drying out the Waste Ink Absorber Pads.

Everytime i start up computer a sigal appears saying "no video input"

I'm assuming after a few minutes, it does get a signal from your computer and all works? It does take about 30s +/- 90s for a computer to generate an output video signal so if your monitor comes on first, before the computer can send a video signal, then you'll see that message. You should see the same message if you shut down your PC and leave the monitor on.

Hello
Wow youve done almost everything here. How about the firewall? is it blocking any connections?

Next,Go to control panel, network and sharing center.Look and see if the pc or laptop in question is on the same network, meaning home or public.

Set all your machines to the same network.Either home or public.I do know this has been a win 7 problem.

Does the monitor have two inputs? (Digital - DVI, and Analog - VGA)
If it does, check on your monitor whether the right input is selected; there can be a separate button for input selection, or the selection can be made from the monotor's On Screen Menu.

Monitor says: "Out of range"

This means that a video signal has been detected but it is beyond the range for display. As an example, if the monitor can only display 1024x768 and you send it a signal at 1280x1024, you will get that message. Try to downsize the display settings on your computer system until the monotor works.
