Question about Hayward Powerflo Matrix 1 - Hp Above Ground Pool Pump

1 Answer

I have a hayward powerflo matrix (1 hp) pump and hayward perflex DE fitration system and I am not able to get the lid off of the filter basket I have taken it off(with a great deal of difficulty) and put a teflon lubricant on the inside of the lid but that didn't help. Is there another lid that I can purchase , perhaps with a handle that will fit my pump?

Magic lube and new o-ring. now put just a small amount on the o-ring and a little on the treads of the lid, do not over tighten ! that's the trick, the lube makes the lid over tighten,so just hand tight, take a marker and mark the lid so you know the perfect spot ever time you put it back on where to stop

I have a perflex hayward ec40 and i just bought a powerflo lx ,but the the pump out and filter in do not match up if i run a hose between the two will this work well

First off the power flo lx by hayward must be rotated to the side to connect with the filter body, to do this you must take the long bolts from the top out rotate to the side reassemble it then purchase a hayward union part # SP1480BLK this will connect the pump housing to your filter tank. I hope this info has helped. Pool girl357

I just purchased a home with the Hayward EC75 perflex system the water isn't returning to the pool what is wrong I am used to owning low maintenance quality filters is this one a dog? what do I need to do...

I take it this a cartridge filter. Might be the filter is clogged if the pump is operating ok. I would remove the filter (be sure to shut off the valves), and clean it. Degrease is first with a filter degreaser. If there are mineral deposits on the filter, give it an acid bath. Be sure to rinse the filter THOROUGHLY before reinstalling. Since this is a new home for you, I would check the pump impellar, basket and skimmers for debris too...

We have aEC-65 hayward pool filter with a 1HP motor why does the pump slow down run at higher pressure ?

I believe that this particular model is a DE pool filter. Is that correct? If you are operating with a media other than DE, let me know. Assuming that you ARE using DE:
1. You DE could be coated to the maximum with pool dirt algae, etc. To correc this problem, you need to bump the filter.
2. You could have an overcharge of DE. To remedy,
Bump-Drain-Recharge.
3. Restriction in return line caused by small
eyeball fitting. To correct, change to a larger sized fitting.
4. You could have a partial closed valve on a return line. You will just need to open the valve.
5. Make sure that your pump strainer basket and pool skimmer basket are not clogged.
6. Make sure that your pump impeller valves are not clogged.

How to backwash the de

You don't BW this filter per se. Their is a drain valve at the bottom of the filter, with the pump off open this valve and open the air bleed then work the bump handle up and down to loosten the DE in the filter. Then turn the pump on and off (2-3 seconds) once or twice let drain and your done. Close your valve and recharge.

WE have a EC50 system w/1HP matrix. Pump runs

Hayward Matrixs' have a one year warranty.

If it is tripping the circuit that is usually an electrical problem, and has nothing to do with the motor. Open up that back with the motor off and try to turn that shaft with a flat head, if it turns than it is an electrical problem; if it doesn't then contact Hayward directly for warranty information. Hayward is a pain to get ahold of but they are great about honoring their warranties.

The Matrixs' are fairly new and I have yet to see a shaft freeze up.

Water keeps coming out from under the lid of the pump

Replace the O-ring/re-lube it, if that doesn't work the actually strainer assembly may be warped, those come undone with the clip under the basket and just pop off - they are between $80-$100.
