Have you tried to get a replacement unit? There might be a hardware problem. I know that games can be a bit fussy about dropped packets more so than simple web surfing. Here is a tool that can help you http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/ It might point you in the right direction.

If it's connected to your computer via ethernet cable then you have nothing to worry about. But if it's connected via USB then check with the label on the modem if it is compatible otherwise your OK.
