Hi all, I have just replaced the bulb in my Panasonic NNA873 Dimension 4. Please be careful, although it was an easy job, there is a capacitor inside which stores heavy loads of power and will release the electricity into you if you touch it! YOU CANNOT REPLACE THE BULB FROM INSIDE THE MICROWAVE....... DO NOT REMOVE THE CARDBOARD-STYLE COVERING WHICH IS ATTACHED WITH ONE SCREW INSIDE THE MICROWAVE ON THE RIGHT. To replace bulb will take 5 minutes. UNPLUG microwave. Remove the outer cover by unscrewing about 6 screws (ordinary phillips) don't lose them into the workings....... Bulb is located on the right side, nearer to the front. You cannot see the glass of the bulb, only the black plastic end piece, as the bulb sits upside down and vertically. Best if you check out what a T170 looks like on the internet, then you will know what you are looking for. For my Panasonic I needed a T170 (but be careful, they have different ends, some are straight, some right angled - mine was right angled - check before you buy and no, I don't think you can get them from any ordinary supermarket etc!!). Do not touch the bulb when replacing as the oil on your fingers will shorten its life. Old bulb can be removed by taking out one screw and then pulling off the connectors - there is a little tab to push down to ease them off. Then simply replace bulb! When putting cover back on make sure all the tabs on top and sides go inside not outside casing. Good luck. This is an easy job, just don't poke around anywhere else.

If there's no obvious removable cover over the bulb (and the owner's manual doesn't address it) some disassembly may be required.

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.

If it's an over the range type, remove the vent grille across the top and see if bulbs can be accessed there. There may be a panel on the bottom covering the light(s), instead.

If not, chances are you'll have to remove it from the wall, then remove the outer cover. If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

If you don't have your instructions, please reply back with your brand and model number.

Once it's out of the wall, the outer cover (wrapper) will need to be removed, just as you'll need to do on a counter top model.

The screws you need to remove should be pretty obvious, and a special driver (such as a T20H Torx type or GTXH20-100) may be needed.

Be sure to put all the screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding screws.

Bulbs can be had in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores.

Many models use halogen lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

SOURCE: Replaced microwave bulbs, light still doesn't work.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

The first step is to unplug the oven before changing bulbs!

If there's no obvious removable cover over the bulb (most often on the rear or side) and the owner's manual doesn't address it, then disassembly will be required.

You'll need to remove the outer cover (wrapper) to get to the bulb.

You can usually download your Panasonic owner's manual here.

Once it's out of the wall, the outer cover (wrapper) will need to be removed, just as you'll need to do on a counter top model.

On a counter top model, be sure it's unplugged, but otherwise ignore the instructions above this paragraph.

You'll need to remove the outer cover (wrapper) to get to the bulb.

See these links before proceeding:

The screws you need to remove should be pretty obvious, but a special driver (such as a T20H type or GTXH20-100) may be needed.

Be sure to put all the screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding screws.

Bulbs can be had locally in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores.

Many models use halogen lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

This is most likely because of a faulty interlock monitor switch, operated by the door latch. If it thinks you're running the oven with the door open it will cause the fuse to blow (or trip a circuit breaker in your case). The switch may be bad (not opening as it should when the door is closed) or out of adjustment.

The switch is replaceable and it's not a costly part. You should have microwave service done by a professional, especially if it involves the door. There are potentially lethal voltages present with the cover off, and the possibility of microwave leakage is the repairs aren't dome properly.

Hope this gets you cooking again. Thanks for using Fixya!

Mine burned out within a month. Probably due to the poor design of the machine which forces you to slam the door to get it to shut.
My biggest concern is the under counter lightbulbs it has burned out in my kitchen over the last year. I wonder how much leaking this thing really gives off. Moving in a few weeks and will be throwing this cancer machine out.
